Master storyteller and internationally bestselling author Christopher Paolini returns to the World of Eragon in this stunning epic fantasy set a year after the events of the Inheritance Cycle.

The world is no longer safe for the Dragon Rider Murtagh and his dragon, Thorn. An evil king has been toppled, and they are left to face the consequences of the reluctant role they played in his reign of terror.

Now they are hated and alone, exiled to the outskirts of society. Throughout the land, hushed voices whisper of brittle ground and a faint scent of brimstone in the air - and Murtagh senses that something wicked lurks in the shadows of Alagaësia. So begins an epic journey into lands both familiar and untravelled, where Murtagh and Thorn must use every weapon in their arsenal, from brains to brawn, to find and outwit a mysterious witch. A witch who is much more than she seems.

In this gripping novel starring one of the most popular characters from Christopher Paolini's blockbuster Inheritance Cycle, a Dragon Rider must discover what he stands for in a world that has abandoned him. Murtagh is the perfect book to enter the World of Eragon for the first time...or to joyfully return.

Darker than other titles in Inheritance series

Felt like a series spin off after a motion picture.

Struggled to get through it after about 45%, it seemed to be stretched out in an exaggerated manner. Very frustrating. The story also became very dark with an uncomfortable feeling in the pit of my stomach during the chapters at Nal Gargoth.

At the 85% mark the story felt like it started to flow again. Thankfully the dark uncomfortable feeling also passed and Murtagh earnestly fought for light.

I read the other Inheritance cycle books in hardback and listened to Murtagh on Audible. I almost think I would have enjoyed it more to buy the Audible copy of one of the previous books. I did enjoy their storylines much more.

Still very much a fan of the Inheritance cycle. I will read/listen to another if Mr Paolini blesses us with writing it. I did miss Eragon, Saphira and Arya in this one.

Loved it!

As always, Gerard Doyle delivers a faultless performance!
The story is gripping, and we really get to know Murtagh and Thorn in a way that's intimate and raw, and get to see a side of them that's only hinted at in the original series.
Many were dissapointed at the collection of short stories that came out a few years ago, but in my opinion this more than makes up for it. I loved this book.

The *only* drawback here is the music played between parts in the book. I usually listen to books I like when I fall asleep, and those will inevitably wake me up again; I thoroughly wish everyone would stop putting musical soundtracks in audiobooks.

Was such a delight to get lost in this world again.

I really enjoyed every part of this book, I'll admit throughout the book I longed for the mentioning of Eragon, Arya and Saphira, but understood that this wasn't their stories.

Christopher has done a great job in working in Murtaghs past into the story, answered a few questions I had as a fan of the Inheritance cycle.

Great Book, need another one

I really enjoyed it, I need another one. You can't leave it here without a sequel!
And Gerard Doyle is the best speaker for the Dragons. I cant imagine anyone else as a reader. Very good work.
