About this listen

"This world can be shaped by those with the talent to do so."

The story of feisty 16-year-old Natalya Ivanovna Yavorovskaya, a girl with a hidden dark side that may be a blessing or a curse.

England 1891, and when Natalya's woodland village is attacked by witch hunters, she flees to the fog-filled streets of London. There, she is befriended by pickpocket, Nathan Croft, who introduces her to Ella Cinders, the owner of a burlesque cabaret bar. Natalya’s life, however, continues to be plagued by the strange world that keeps intruding on her own.

What, exactly, is the mysterious Shadow Realm, and what do rainbows have to do with its existence? What is the purpose of the Glass Slipper orchid and the ancient evil that consumes it? And how is Natalya the unsuspecting key to the end of all life on Earth?

Fantasy with a Twist

Natalya had loving parents and lived in a woodland village that she knew and loved. That is, until the witch hunters arrived and took everything, she loved away from her. Fleeing her village, it is while she is in London that she meets Nathan Croft and Ella Cinders. She also discovers the Shadow Realm and the evil that lurks within it.

The author, Terry Vernon turns the fairy tale world upside down and gives his listeners a new point of view! Combining several fairy tales into one story was creative and fascinating. Vernon slowly and deliberately keeps the listener in the dark until the foundation is set, then the story unfolds keeping the listener spellbound to the end. The plot and twists were well developed and executed. The characters were rich in personality. The story unfolded smoothly and flawlessly.

The narrator, Amy Putt delivers an engaging performance. Her use of unique voices to keep the story clear and moving forward was exceptional. She spoke clearly and with a steady rhythm. I look forward to hearing Putt perform again.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book with the unique twists of characters and plot. I look forward to the next in the series.

There were no issues with the quality or production of this audiobook. It was clear and crisp.
