Publisher's summary

Candle Enys is no longer human.

A demon owns her soul, and the only way to set things right is to travel to the one place no human should ever go: the Night Nation. Where the dead roam, and spirits flood the sky. Where monsters hold court and the very land itself might wake at any moment.

With her wings, her magic, and her wits, Candle must find the demon and kill him, all the while contending with the denizens of the Night. New friends, foes, and complicated family history await—if only she can catch her breath.

The Night Nation is full of dreams and promise, but does Candle belong there?

A dark young adult fantasy with progression elements.

Keeps getting better Part 2

After my first review (where I accidently pressed submit before checking my message) I would like to add... Following Candles story as she navigates through some very tricky situations, completly on her own, creates a mountain load (literally) of unpredictable and wonderfully nail-biting outcomes, which also adds a great sense of depth to our experience in this magical realm.
At 3am, one morning, I found myself wide awake and so greatful to have this story to enjoy! It was right near the end so I couldn't wait to hear how the finale would unfold. It didn't disappoint! And now I can't wait for the next one.
As an avid fantasy and scifi enthusiast, I can honesty say that this is a story that I can see myself listening to again oneday!
Tolsons writing manages to capture your attention and maintain the flow of Candles movements from one beautifully descriptive scene to the next. You will discover characters you both love and loath and places that make your imagination feel like a director or scene builder on an epic movie set. It's so enchanting!
I want to congratulate both the writer and the narrator - Saskia, on another polished production. Saskia your ability to capture the varied energies of each moment and character is commendable!
I can't wait for the next one you two!!

It was so compelling

I was frustrated with some of Candle's choices but they made sense to her. With where it left off I definitely need to know what happens next and with the changes.

Mixed Feelings

One of the things I hate most is when an author has the main character make a stupid decision only to further a flawed plot, and then every bad thing you think is going to happen, happens. Meanwhile, the reader is forced to ride shotgun as the main character eats turd burger after turd burger as a result. This book is a perfect example of that. I loved the characters and the general writing, but I despised the plot and only felt irritated and uneasy throughout the story. At the end, there was no payoff, only more turd burgers - as expected and foreshadowed by the author so don't think this is any sort of spoiler, only a warning. You will not be pleasantly surprised.
