About this listen

Ah, Nyil, with its magic, its monsters, and its petty gods. A divine spat leaves French medic Viv stranded in the middle of an arcane disaster zone crawling with undead horrors. Thankfully, there are strange allies to be found, not least the mysterious interface that helps humans survive in this merciless world.

Viv will have to progress fast to survive this calamity and find civilisation. She will also need a bit of luck. Unless, of course, she becomes the calamity herself. After all, luck is such a fickle thing.

Great first book

Great story with a fascinating world and fun characters. Amazing job with the narrator, from the evil robot, to having proper French pronunciation.

A Start to something bigger

well produced and a great start to a new series. I just hope it doesn't go the way of A Journey of Black and Red.

Excellent start to the saga

I have been enjoying this book on RoyalRoad and this audiobook is an excellent, refined, enjoyable version of this well thought out story.

Just read it, fleshbag!

I love so many things about this book! The main character is a no non-sense, high class soldier dropped into a poisonous, post-apocalypse landscape populated by undead horrors. Resourcefulness and luck sees her taking her first steps towards reviving an empire with her faithful, yet terrifying war golem sidekick, as well as a sassy dragonette, Soundbooth theater has, as always, done an immaculate job with their narration and story telling. Can't wait for the next installment? No worries, there are 9, count 'em *9* books published so far, with more chapters published online regularly. If you are new to the litrpg or isekai genre, then this book is a good introduction.

Great fun from stay to finish!

I've been reading this series for a while now and absolutely love it! I was beyond excited when I saw the audio version available for pre order and I was not disappointed.

The writing is more sophisticated than most of the Litrpg fair or there, but has a flow and cadence that makes it easy to just keep reading until someone makes you stop.

The story is great and does not take ages to find it's legs. The main character, Vivian

One of my favorite series, wonderfully done as an audiobook. Can’t wait for the rest to come out

Underwhelming

Much like with azrinth healer this book didn't live up to the pre-audio hype, maybe it's the grasping at straws nature of female protagonist non-romance or angst books, but there are certainly much better out there, this one's just kinda bland.

Exquisite World Building

Love the characters and their evolution. Love the viewpoint and the worldview the MC has.
Would have loved the other characters to get their own episodes more often

i have been hoping for an audio book version of this series. its that perfect blend of snarky and exciting, irreverant and intense. the characters are so well developed, and soundbooth nailed this production. i cant wait for the rest of the series (up to book 9 as of this moment!)

Performance Issues, but still fantastic

I'm a bit biased—I’ve read all available books in this series multiple times and absolutely love them. It’s easily in my top three all-time favorite Isekai/LitRPG series. That said, I recognize that the first book is a bit short, and I’d probably be more critical if I didn’t already know what’s coming next in Book 2. Honestly, Books 1 and 2 probably should have been merged into a single novel, but that doesn’t change the fact that I adore this series and can’t wait for the next audiobook to drop—just for an excuse to dive back in.

That said, there were some performance issues, mainly with a specific sound effect. Whenever the MC has private thoughts, the narrators use an echo-like effect, which they seem to apply even when she isn’t having those private thoughts. It became a bit distracting and, at times, annoying. Not sure if that was intentional or just an editing quirk. I was listening with my AirPods Pro using noise canceling, so maybe it stood out more in that setting. Perhaps if I had listened on a car stereo, it wouldn’t have been as noticeable—but as it was, it really stuck out to me.

Echo effect aside, I still highly recommend this series—especially because I know how much things keep escalating with every new book. The stakes just keep getting higher and higher, and it only gets better the further you go. So yeah, I can’t wait for the next one!
