About this listen

In the gloom of her hotel, a mother readies to rejoin her past. Feverish nightmares meet the chilling light of day in this haunting short story from USA Today bestselling author Catriona Ward.

Room 17 was the last stop on her husband and son’s journey. Eight years after their deaths, Stella books the same room, hoping to commune with their memories. But as she tries to sleep, disturbing and urgent visions blur the lines between reality and the supernatural, and the other side sends a terrifying message.

Catriona Ward’s Night and Day in Misery is part of The Shivers, a collection of haunting stories that reveal the otherworldly terrors all around us. Once you know, there’s no going back. Read or listen to each story in one unsettling sitting.

It was not quite what I was looking. Engaging story but not horror. The narrator was excellent. I only finished it to hear how it ended. It was quite sad.

The story was good but if you're looking for horror this isn't it. Sad and a little paranormal but not horror.

Sad. Not Horror.

I read The Last House on Needless Street a little while ago, and was just bawling for the last 25%. Same here. I rarely cry reading or listening to books, but Catriona Ward's are 2/2 thus far.

Catriona Ward made me cry again.

Such a heartbreaking story. Love this author and her story is my second fave in this series.

Grief can be the worst kind of horror...

This is the second story I've listened to from The Shivers collection. I thought these stories were supposed to make us shiver in fear, but I guess they meant that you will shiver from crying so hard. WHY ARE THESE STORIES SO SAD???

This grabbed my brain and squeezed my heart. I feel catch in my throat as if this was not some story, but really happened. Maybe how you feel when you wake up from a bad dream.

Great story!

Haunting

This story wasn't the typical frightening tale. It's a story about the grief of losing a child. A woman married to an alcohol mourns the loss of her child and anger at the husband. She learns what really happened and wants to join him. It didn't have an ending, just stopped. This doesn't really belong in the shivers collection. Had I known I would've skipped this one.
