Publisher's summary

Afton is not like other college freshmen. She drinks blood. Rescued from the horrific Nightshade universe as a baby, the half-ling Afton is manipulated into returning to the world of her birth, where danger shadows her every move.

Lorenz never expected to have to fulfill the treaty he entered years ago. He is shocked when he sees Afton for the first time. In his eyes, he only sees the beautiful vision she will transform into, rather than the waif who is terribly malnourished. Forced to live up to the terms of the agreement, he joins with the half-vampire, half-human daughter of his adversary.

Determined to safeguard his soul mate, Lorenz will do everything in his power to protect her. Will an ancient order dedicated to the purity of vampire blood succeed in eliminating Afton? Find out what happens when a vampire and a half-ling soul mate come together.

I liked the universe that the author created..

Would you try another book from Evelyn Lederman and/or David Brenin?

Yes.

Any additional comments?

I liked the universe that the author created because it is filled with Vampires, Telepathic Residents and other Preternaturals.

Lorenz was an ok male lead but
I did not care for the main female lead's name, Afton. I kept thinking of a little boy when hearing it.

Afton is a halfling (half human half vampire) who has managed to stay hidden for a very long time after she and her mother escaped Nightshade, and Her father.

Her father, whom she has never met, sent people to kidnap her and bring back to Nightshade.
She soon finds out she is betrothed to a vampire Prince.

There are some disturbing parts in this book.
However, This book was well written and The Narrator, David Brenin, did a good job.

Nightshade ~ A Dark and Dangerous Universe!

Nightshade universe painted a vivid story about a dark and dangerous world created by Evelyn Ledgerman that both fascinated and appalled me, but I devoured every minute of it! With each macabre scene, I was pulled in deeper to a world where showing weakness could get you killed. While this universe got my attention, it was the character's Afton, and Lorenz that kept me listening to this story almost non-stop.

After a long search, Afton's father was able to locate her on earth, and had her brought back to the Nightshade universe to fulfill a contract that was formed years ago. To complete this contact, she must join with Lorenz, a very powerful vampire. Her first encounter with her father showed her just how terrifying, and brutal vampires actually are. Because she is half-vampire, he forces her to drink blood directly from the humans, which makes her sick and weak. When Afton learns she's to join with another vampire, she is actually a little relieved knowing she will be leaving her father's hive.

Lorenz is not happy when he hears Afton has been returned to Nightshade universe, and does not look forward to joining with a half-ling. After spending weeks avoiding the inevitable, he finally makes it to the hive to uphold his end of the contract. As soon as he lays eyes on Afton, he's drawn to her, and knows what she will become after they "join." In the beginning, their relationship and romance came across as awkward, but as the story progressed, these scenes become more natural.

Unfortunately, Afton's half-human side puts her in a lot of danger. When evil forces and Malice come for her, Lorenz will stop at nothing to keep her safe, and will make alliances and ruthless bargains, but Afton is tired of being a victim.

David Brenin's performance was great! The characters were easily identifiable, and he portrayed the different emotions throughout the story.

Great start to a new vampire romance series! Unique with multiple worlds!

I really enjoyed this book! It was much better than I anticipated. I have read many books about vampires in this genre but this series is unique. The more I listened the more it sucked me in. I listened to it pretty quickly!

The author is great at creating a foundation for the story and building layer after layer of interesting and captivating details. I highly recommend you stick with the story and don't give up after a few chapters.

The alternate universes, different types of vampires, half vampires, and other supernatural people are presented in a very creative and interesting way.

This is a HEA book with no cliffhangers!!! You can read it as a stand alone! But I'm definitely looking forward to the next book!

The narrator did a great job bringing the story to life!

Different take on Vampires

This audio book was given to me free for an unbiased review. I really had no idea what I was getting into when I asked for this book. Evelyn does a great job of keeping your attention. I couldn't put it down until I completed it. The book starts out with a young sickly college girl and ends with a voluptuous, beautiful strong woman. She is an equal to a different kind of vampire than most you read about. She is transferred to an alternate universe from earth to be mated with an "original" vampire. The story line is easy to picture in your mind. Great book. Now to move on to the next one in the series.

Alien Vampires

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, if they normally read paranormal or fantasy romance books. The story line kept my interest and I enjoyed the narrator also.

What other book might you compare Nightshade to and why?

I don't normally read "Vampire in Space" type books so I have no comparison. I usually read the typical "on Earth" vampires.

What does David Brenin bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I always get more from an audio book than from a printed book. Good narrators, for me, always bring out the author's vision, like watching a movie. The narrator for this book did a fantastic job.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I can't think of any particular part. The whole book was great, loved the hero and heroine and all they had to go through to be together and free.

nice little twist on these vampires

Any additional comments?

The story pulls you in and doesn't let go.

Entertaining, well written and intriguing twist on Vampires. Vampires in a parallel world. An fantastic interesting dark and dangerous world filled many great characters both good and bad. A world where most humans are slaves. There are the good vampires, monstrous vampires ,the league, crystal telepaths and more.

This story revolves manly around Lorenz and Afton. Lorenz, has to marry the child he of the woman he helped save. Afton, the half human, half vampire who was promised to Lorenz by her father.

Being the first book in the series and a really enjoyable, entertaing story I'm looking forward to the next book.

As usual David Brenin did a really good job with the narration.

This is my first Evelyn Lederman book, but it won't be my last.
