About this listen

This bundle includes books seven, eight, and nine in the Nine Lives Magic Mysteries.

Stray Spells: What’s a witch to do when her feline familiar creates a cursed sleep mask that unleashes an evil spirit bent on plaguing half the town with terrible nightmares?

Well, the first stop is Merlin’s Well for a whole pitcher of margaritas.

Mystic Meow: It’s the dog days of summer and Winterspell is going through town psychics faster than a werewolf sheds its fur after a full moon.

And let’s hope we don’t have one of those on our tail.

Catnip Charms: Something old, something new, something borrowed, and something … cursed?

In the midst of my dream destination wedding, Aunt Lavender’s gift—a vintage locket—reveals a chilling secret: it’s cursed with remnants of a dark spell from decades past.

A series of stories see each one reviewed here

Stray Spells: Cats and business
What happens when a cat with a mega ego starts their own business? A cat who is never wrong even when proven wrong. The sparks fly and the adventure begins. Toss in the Adams family look-alike and thinning veils the adventure turns interesting. We get to see what happens when Cora has to clean up the mess caused by Selene.

Mystic Meow: Cats helping birds
What would you do if the only witness to a murder was a bird and only a sassy cat can hear it? Get ready for a wild ride and several revelations. The story follows Cora as she reluctantly goes along for the ride. Toss in an apparently crazy aunt, interfering new grandmother and a fat sheriff up for reelection and get ready for the laughs.

Catnip Charms: Wedding in the woods
A wedding in the woods, what could go wrong? To toss in Selene and we know the answer. The author kept us guessing until the end as to who did what and when. It was a good story with lots of twists and turns.

I love these stories but where is the main character’s backbone?

These stories are really fun and interesting but it’s quite difficult to listen to a female main character spend so much energy and time tempering her response to injustice and evil committed directly at her and the folks around her.
Not to mention Seline’s abuse… although I get why S does pushes Cora so far… due to the lack of Cora setting like ANY boundaries.

I feel like it’s a bit dangerous to write a main character who has no boundaries with her family, familiar or villains.. but very strong boundaries with her love interest.

I’d like to see Cora be even a little assertive in her family life.. the lack of assertiveness is an…unusual quality in a heroine.

Appreciate the 3-Book Sets!

I adore these three book sets in general. My only feedback is that there is a little plot jump between the pre-wedding and post-wedding. In one book Cora is planning to have a one on one with Selene, but then that doesn't happen post wedding.

I love this series

As I’ve gotten older, or just old, I have lost my taste for gritty mysteries. I now want a good story with characters I can admire and murders not so gruesome, sometimes not even a murder, just a mystery. Danielle Garrett has created multiple series filled with mystical fun and mayhem. I thank her for the entertainment she has given me.

Cora's lack of assertiveness

I truly dislike Selene and the way Cora allows the abuse and, in fact, continues to treat Selene like a princess who has the right to abuse her and control her life. It's disgusting and the cat has gone from cute and funny to an evil villan who adds nothing worthwhile to the stories. Her abuse actually ruins my enjoyment of the books.
