Publisher's summary

A rising storm. A sudden catastrophe. No power. No hope of rescue....

A storm looms on the horizon as Ruth Garber and her granddaughter Stella travel by helicopter to an offshore drilling rig. Ruth, a geologist, is there to consult on a software upgrade. Stella, a geology student, just wants to prove herself to her legendary grandmother. They don’t know their trip will soon become a grim struggle to survive....

When the helicopter goes down after dropping them off, they realize they’re in trouble. The platform loses power. Cell phones don’t work. Everything electronic is dead. There are whispers of an EMP attack. Now that they’re stranded with a skeleton crew on a steel platform miles from shore, battered by massive waves, the deadly truth of their predicament slowly sinks in.

Meanwhile, John and his son Curtis are in a fishing boat, suddenly adrift when their engine and navigation equipment fails. The waves are getting higher, and the storm has them on a collision course with the rig.

As the castaways on the rig struggle to survive, they discover the back-up generator has been deliberately damaged. Then when people begin to disappear, they come to a grim realization.

Someone in their tiny group is a saboteur—willing to do anything to ensure the lights stay off.

If you like post-apocalyptic fiction with a cast of characters you can really root for, filled with prepper and survival information, compelling action, and with zero profanity, you'll love No Rescue!

A great start to a new series!

Two female geologists arrive to work on a computer system on an offshore drilling rig and things start to go wrong. This is a fast paced book but clearly there will be more to come in the series. There are a lot of things unsettled and I look forward to the next installments.

I haven't heard this narrator before, but I enjoyed her performance.

Captivating!

This is the first book in the EMP Sabotage Series. This is a great start to the series. I like Grace Hamilton's writing. The story is fast-paced, suspenseful, action packed, and entertaining. The characters are interesting and intriguing. I liked Ruth and Stella. The storyline is captivating, filled with intrigue, mystery, and twists and turns. Anna Maste did an amazing job bringing theses characters, and this story to life. This is an excellent thriller. I enjoyed it. If you like Post-Apocalyptic EMP Thriller, this series definitely is for you. Looking forward to listening to No Relief, the next book in the series. Excellent Start to EMP Series

I've now listened to a few series by this author, and she certainly seems to have found a winning formula for EMP or other un/natural disaster stories. I certainly have noticed a particular story arc she favors, but this is not a bad thing, as it works! I liked how the heroine is not only a STEM one but also an older woman well respected in her geology field. In this guise, she is visiting an oil rig platform to do some work when an EMP changes everybody's world. Her college-age granddaughter, a geology major who hopes to follow in her grandmother's footsteps and wants to impress her on this trip, is also along for the ride. I loved the heroine’s take-charge, no-nonsense attitude. She certainly was able to get a good read on people who came into the story, even if she didn't quite have an accurate understanding of the character of somebody she trusted. As always happens in these EMP books, the book is filled with the group dealing with a variety of challenges, both technical and human. This book gets surprisingly violent, so if you don't have a stomach for that, skip this book. I liked how the book had a glimmer of romance for Grandma amongst it all! Go, Granny go! So many revelations came at the end, but the author did a good job planting the seeds for them so it completely made sense within the story's flow. As always, the author uses the epilogue to tease what will happen in the next book. I am certainly intrigued to see what happens when the group of people we meet in that book-ender meet up with Granny and crew. Luckily, I have the next book queued up and ready to go!
