About this listen

The people we love are thieves. They steal our hearts. They steal our breath. They steal our sanity. And we let them. Over and over and over again.

They say you never forget your first love.

Mine was a homeless musician who wandered straight into my soul.

He was my first everything. And fourteen years later, I still can't get him out of my head.

He broke all my rules. He also broke my heart.

I watched him climb to stardom, cheering him on from afar. But I was never a fan; just a girl in love.

Like a tornado, he spiraled, leaving a path of destruction in his wake.

But love conquers all, right? It has to. Because here I stand, ravaged and ruined, needing it to be true.

We can't go back, but I want to. Back to the park. Back to when he sang only for me. Before he was famous. Before he shattered my heart.

I thought I knew everything about him. But I could not have been more wrong.

He promised me every tomorrow. And here I am, waiting.

And hoping.

Again.

Contains mature themes.

I have listened to every book shes written and this one was given the time and space needed to really tell the story and let the characters evolve, grow, and come into their own. I couldn't sleep because I needed to know what was next.

Amazing!

This was probably one of the darkest and most emotional books I've ever read. It was a rollercoaster ride, it made me smile, it made me cry, and it made me want to rip out my earbuds at work and through a fit over what was happening. It tore my heart out but then put it back together. This was a beautiful story of the realisms of love, and mental illness, and truthfully it was wonderfully done. I love this book so much, and will forever cherish how beautiful Evan and Piper are.

One question:
I kept waiting on an answer regarding when Piper was searching for Blue in the old house for the second time that evening and found the pile of notebooks restacked.
Toward the end of the story, Blue "Evan" says he hasn't been inside the house since he was 20 years old... He was older than 20 the night Piper searched the house. Who moved the books?

Very touching, a unique love story

This book is an emotional rollercoaster. I just finished listening & I don’t think a book has ever made me feel so emotionally wrung out. Saying this is an “angsty love story” is an understatement. I sobbed while listening to this book, but I have 0 regrets.

There is love, spice, addiction, mental illness, loss and so much more. This is a devastating, frustrating & beautiful story.

Though long, this was a decent listen. Once I got past the 1st couple of chapters I found it easy to listen to the end. The word "homeless" in reference to the MC was used so often in the beginning, some editing would have been great. Jillian did a good job, just wished AS narrated more than a few chapters in the last 1/4 of the book. The author did an amazing job detailing the ups and downs of a couple dealing with substance abuse, mental illness, suicide in a relationship. I can see how this book can be triggering for a reader/listener who has actually dealt with these issues because the book is very relatable.

Well detailed and Relatable (may be triggering for some).

I don’t know where to start with my review of this book. First, this book was a 5-star read for me hands down. Do not sleep on this book, I promise you, you won’t regret reading it. Also PLEASE check the trigger warnings on this book. It is HEAVY on mental health and substance abuse. Make sure you are comfortable reading it. NOW for the good stuff… Blue or “Evan” is his real name is a homeless musician who strikes up a conversation with Piper one day during her lunch break at the park, that’s all I am going to say about that. The rollercoaster this book took me on with my emotions WHEW! Now it did not make me cry but there were spots in the book I teared up for sure. There are a few twists in this book as well… I had a really bad feeling about Blue, but I am glad I was completely wrong about that. This book was so beautifully written, it was captivating and gut-wrenching. I could not put it down.

Soooo freaking goo
