Publisher's summary

The epic novel of espionage, betrayal and turbulence in 1960s Hong Kong by the #1 New York Times bestselling author and unparalleled master of historical fiction, James Clavell

Taking place over the course of an eventful week in 1963 Hong Kong, James Clavell’s Noble House is a masterfully woven novel of true suspense.

Ian Dunross, the current tai-pan of the illustrious yet financially troubled Struan empire, is racing to undo the damage his predecessor left behind and to once again stand on stable ground. And he’ll do whatever it takes—including striking a hard-fought deal with an American millionaire. But his rival, Quillan Gornt, has other plans. Suddenly caught in a dubious plot involving Soviet spies, Hong Kong’s criminal underground, and the hostile takeover of his company, Dunross holds nothing back in the fight for the Noble House.

Espionage, mayhem, and high-stakes betrayals make Noble House Clavell’s most prolific and imaginatively crafted narrative in the Asian Saga.

Awesome, though not clavell's best.

First of all, Shogun and Taipan are in a different league, in my opinion. With that in mind, I really enjoyed Noble House, as an exciting and interesting yarn. The characters and history create a sense of reality, although the timeline is pretty incredible. A great read, and a good listen. the reader took a chapter or two, but did well, especially with the multitude of both Asian and European voices.

Continuingly happy with this series!

This book started out a little slow for me but it more than made up for it by the end. It did a great job of filling out all the characters. My favorite parts were all the tidbits from the other previous books. It was so great to hear their names mentioned again.

A great story and a fitting end to the Asia series

great narration. he does a great job of giving all of the characters life. the story gets a bit technical regarding some of the business dealings and I found that hard to follow at times but the author does a pretty good job of helping the reader along.

Outstanding!

Such a great book and the narration is amazing. I loved it so much. I’m still in awe of how good it was. I’m completely enthralled with the story. I wish it would go on forever.

Epic.

Nothing can be shogun but this is also epic. I’m an American immigrant to Indonesia, this is so accurate in so many ways.

Audio Quality

The audio though the Android Audible app is good, but through iTunes via the Audible sync download or the web browser streaming are unlistenable. The iTunes and browser versions skip a fraction of a second and up to a second every few seconds, cutting off words and making it a jarring experience. There appears to be no workaround. It's highly frustrating since I can only listen through the web browser at work.

I liked the audio version better than print

There are a lot of characters and a lot of business transactions mixed in with a healthy dose of intrigue and side stories. A fun story.

Excellent

I had read this story many years ago. The helter-skelter world of Hong Kong, corporate intrigue, and larger than life characters make this a great roller coaster ride.
The narrator was excellent. You could tell which character was speaking easily.

Needed the narrator from Tai Pan!

My issue is with this narrator; who does a competent job but only a few accents and who gives the same style of speech to all the characters. He simply doesn’t compare to John Lee, who is a master of accents and who gifts each character with his or her own unique voice. Missing that very much with Noble House.
