About this listen

Book 8 in the New Species series.

Dr. Allison Baker is obsessed with saving the comatose New Species male. She has tried everything and there’s only one option left. Alli will break every rule and put her life in danger by tempting 880 to wake, using only her feminine scent and touch. She just has to kidnap him and crawl into bed with him to make it work.

880 wakes in a different world with a small female who’s been sleeping beside him, caressing him, and wrapping her sweet body around his, teasing his senses. He lies silent and still, listening and evaluating each arousing touch, fighting his body’s reaction. Hatred flares when he discovers she’s human, but Mercile stole everything from him so he decides it’s fair to take her in return.

But things quickly change and he wants her at his side and in his bed. 880 has chosen a new name – Obsidian - the personification of dark and dangerous. He’ll fight them all to keep Alli. No one will stand in his way.

Editorial reviews

In Book 8 of Laurann Dohner's steamy, popular New Species series, Dr. Allison Baker passionately tends to 880, a wounded New Species: part animal, part man, and in a coma. Knowing that her tempting female scent will lure him into consciousness, she begins sleeping beside him - and after 880 wakes, choosing the powerful and dark name Obsidian, he decides to claim Alli as his. A sensual, versatile performance from Vanessa Chambers helps bring Dohner's characters to life in this sexy example of erotic sci-fi.

Awesome

What made the experience of listening to Obsidian the most enjoyable?

This is a most exciting, sexy listen!

What does Vanessa Chambers bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Vanessa's ability to portray the voices so realistically made this listen come fully to life. I could 'see and feel' everything she described.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I absolutely wanted to listen all in one sitting and I did just that.

Okay that was pretty good!

Finally, a book that was totally original, which is saying something since it is book 8 in a series.

Dr. Ally loves New Species and would do anything to protect them, but when one of her patients isn't recovering she takes matter into her own hands to heal him.

I was a bit bummed about the separation, but overall I think it was handled well and the characters got me emotionally invested in this world yet again!

Parting is such sweet sorrow.....

Parting is such sweet sorrow, will you take that risk and see me tomorrow? This book kept me on edge and guessing for the next move, the danger, the love that you hoped would last and the understanding and happiness when one finds where they belong.

My least favorite of them all but still good.

Narrator does all the audiobooks in this series. Very talented and she does so many different voices. Love her. Obsidian is my least favorite of the entire New Species series. I found it a little silly and corny. Not as interesting and none of the expected funny jokes and lighter moods. It is hard to get through BUT still a great book. The other books in this series are fantastic!

A tad frustrating

I loved Obsidian, he basically knows what he wants from the get go. On the other hand, Dr. Allison annoyed the ever living crud out of me....so wishy washy. That's was really my only grrrr moments.

Read the series, now I'm reviewing

So Darkness is a very good book. by now you have read her other books in the series, or you should before reading this one. I loved how this one plays out. this was definitely one of the books in the series that I did not want to put down, I just wanted to listen to it all the way through because I couldn't figure out how the ending was going to come about. Alli is a fantastic character, exactly what Darkness needs. The first part of the book kind of didn't make sense, in the fact that she kidnaps this monster of a guy and is able to successfully relocate him to another location. however without doing this the story really wouldn't make sense... So all-in-all I love the book though, and highly recommended.

Another Great HEA for this series

Totally worth it! If you are enjoying the series, trust the author, she did not disappoint. I almost didn't read this book based on the reviews that I read. Thankfully, the preview from the previous book convinced me to give it a try.

3.5 Obsidian Stars

I will admit to being curious about Obsidian from the past books, though we don’t really understand who he is until this book.

Dr. Allison is new to, and she becomes a huge part of this series without us knowing.
Honesty is huge to New Species and breaking that trust is going to be catastrophic as Doc Ally finds out.

Obsidian is very much cave man to me, I liked it and I didn't. I think what parts I didn't like was that there wasn't more New Species around to do like a 101 for him.

I also don’t really agree with how Ally was treated not that she didn't deserve something but I don’t know I just wasn't a fan of that part of everything.

I do admit that the attraction and the confusion was interesting to hear play out.

Again I am a fan of this narrator she does a wonderful job with these characters making them distinct and not like they run together. You know who is talking. Loved that.

*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*
