Publisher's summary

Me, my ex, and a five star hotel room. What could go wrong?

Oliver: It took seven years until I was sure I was over my high school boyfriend, Luke - and just one night to realize how wrong I was.

Not even one night, really. It was honestly more like five minutes of conversation at our high school reunion that made it clear I'd never gotten over him in the first place. And if the conversation by itself wasn't enough, the fact that I invited him back to my hotel room, dragged him into bed, and then had a panic attack in the middle of the, uh, festivities took care of any lingering doubts.

And that would have been fine, honestly. Completely humiliating, sure, but fine - if only I weren’t stuck at home, helping my father with a health crisis and dodging Luke’s calls - and my feelings about them. Luke’s a player. He always has been. I know better than to get involved with him again. So how the hell do I get my heart to listen?

Luke: Oliver Luna. The guy’s haunted me since high school. Oliver’s the first person I ever fell in love with - and the last. He’s the guy who showed me what I was made of - and it turns out, what I’m made of isn’t pretty. I won’t risk hurting anyone else the way that I hurt him. And I've never forgiven myself.

I guess that’s why I decided to go to my high school reunion. I figured maybe, if I apologized, I’d be able to let Oliver go. That’s how it works, right? You say you’re sorry and you get to move on.

Only first, Oliver tells me he's already moved on, which somehow just makes me feel worse, even though it's what I'm supposed to want. And then, just when I think I’ll never see Oliver again, he lets his guard down, and all I want to do is pull him into my arms and make his pain go away. Who even am I at this point?

I have no idea how to fix all the damage I've caused. All I know is this: I’ll die before I let Oliver walk out of my life again.

Love this series!

I absolutely love this series! Oliver and Luke have a second chance at their HEA, but it takes them a while to figure it out. I like the flashbacks in this book. The back story is hugely important, and I like having little snippets throughout the book. Of course I love the secondary characters that carry through the series.

Second Chance

A classic second chance story. While I never fully became a fan of Luke’s, I did enjoy the story and thought Oliver was great! The narration was perfect!

A Charming Second Chance Romance

Spencer Spears has a unique ability to create fascinating, complicated characters. He does so beautifully once again in ‘Oliver Ever After’.

In this audiobook his characters are vividly brought to life through Michael Fell’s spot-on narration.

The story is told back and forth over two periods of time and often from two points of view.

There is so much miscommunication and so much self doubt of the part of each of the main characters, that you begin to wonder if things will ever work out.

The main characters are Luke, a hedge fund manager stuck in a job at that he hates, and Oliver, a high school classmate of Luke’s. In high school, Luke was a serious jock and Oliver was a classic nerd. But it’s Oliver who made it big, selling not just one but two of his tech start-ups for millions of dollars.

One part of the story tells of a high school experience between Oliver and Luke that ended badly. The second point in time is seven years later when both men are back at their old high school for a class reunion.

Luke wants to apologize to Oliver for what happened seven years earlier. He finds Oliver in the library, the place that meant something special to both of them. Oliver pretends that he was only in the library trying to get a cell phone signal. Surprisingly, though, Oliver asks Luke back to his hotel room and their relationship picks up from there.

It took a long time for the two to finally realize what was really important to them. The epilogue spells it out perfectly.

Love Before Business

Oliver Ever After is the third book in the 8 Million Hearts series, a contemporary series with a wonderful cast of characters that I fell in love with. Oliver and Luke are high school sweethearts who need a second chance. They also need to get out of the rut they’ve found themselves in both professionally and personally. Reconnecting with each other is the catalyst they need to move forward and find love.

The audiobook was narrated by Michael Fell who did a nice job with it. Michael’s performance has been improving with each book I listen to by him. I really like his voice and found this audiobook to be enjoyable.

This Series Is Amazing!

I love Spencer Spears' 8 Million Hearts series, so I was thrilled to see book three out in audio. It's about Luke, who feels like his life is a mess in spite of having a well-paid job in finance. He's snowed under with work and can't forget Oliver, the boy from high school that he can't forgive himself for how he treated back then. Oliver is at loose ends after selling his second company and comes to New York to look after his father, his only family, after he has a heart attack. And then he runs into Luke at their school reunion and Oliver's and Luke's lives get tangled together as they learn to ask for what they need and forgive themselves for past mistakes. There's a wonderful cast of secondary characters that support the story, made up of the main characters from the first two books as well as books to come.

Michael Fell does such a skilled job bringing all these characters to life and I love his narration for this whole series! I highly recommend it!

So long but not much happened

Meh... Couldn't relate to the Characters. There wasn't much character growth just a book full of insecurities. The narrator sounded weird...

Boring

I'm a big fan of second chance romance stories, and when the past is told as present story, it weighs down the rest of the book. I was listening over audible, so there were times I couldn't tell right away what time period we were in. I love Luke's arc to self-confidence and better boundaries, and I wish he'd chosen to put himself first for him, not as part of chasing someone else. This book didn't have the same intensity of hooks as the second one.
