Pure delight.

I forgot how much I enjoyed this series and these characters. As soon as it was available I paused the story I'd been listening to and started Opal immediately. It was like meeting up with well loved friends again. I've read the story, but Will Patton's narration brings so much more to the experience and that's saying something, because Maggie Stiefvater's writing is superb. Evocative and lyrical, she effortlessly transported me into the Opal's world from the first word and left me sad to be released at the last. But I'm happy too. Content at this small sip and looking forward to the next book's release, Call Down the Hawk, in Nov.

Beautiful

This was beautiful. It reminded me so much of Patrick Rothfuss’s The Narrow Road Between Desires.

Magic.

I’d already read Opal in ebook, but was thrilled to get an audio version of this short story. The charm of Will Patton’s narration adds a layer of enjoyment to the unfettered pleasure that is a Maggie Stiefvater read. This series is painfully good—one of my all time favorites, and I’m very much looking forward to Call Down the Hawk for more of the story.

So warm and moody

Will Patton's shift to Opal's voice is stunning! this story has so much mood and perfectly captures the summer of the story.

I'd give it a 10 if I could

Will Patton is beyond talented. He brings an incredible sense of wonder and magic to this already wonderful, magical story.

Happiness and sadness of dream things

Magical little story set at The Barns, told from fey little Opal's point of view. Ronan and Adam are a couple and the future is bright but also brittle. I cried. 5 stars, a must for the readers of The Raven Cycle (though I'm not sure it stands on it own).

Brilliant

Will Patton channels Maggie Stiefvater’s rich and beautiful imagination. The Raven Cycle and the Dreamer books (two so far) are brilliant, as is their narration. I have listened to all of them multiple times and enjoy them more each time. This is a rare gift.

That voice...

There is no one to compare with Will Patton's voice...sheets of liquid satin with sandpaper edges. Listening to him resonates in my soul and becomes a full body experience. His voice reading Maggie Stiefvater's words are what I want to hear as the last sound before sleep, each night or eternally .
