About this listen

New York Times best-selling author Stuart Woods delivers a riveting thriller that introduces an exciting addition to the pantheon of fictional sleuths.

Forced into early retirement at 37, smart, attractive, and fiercely independent Major Holly Barker trades in her bars as a military cop for the badge of deputy chief of police in Orchid Beach, Florida. But below the sunny surface of this sleepy, well-to-do island town lies an evil that escalates into the cold-blooded murder of one of Holly's new colleagues.

An outsider, Holly has little to go on for answers and no one to help her - except Daisy, a Doberman of exceptional intelligence and loyalty that becomes her companion and protector. The closer Holly gets to the truth, the more she knows that it'll take one smart dog with guts to sniff out this killer - before he can catch her first.

Happy to see that it was about the plot of the story besides details of the sex

I read read Stone Barrington/Holly Barker Reckless Abandon out of order and I was really disgusted by that book for its details of their sex acts. Which Stuart Woods seems to like to do that with Stone Barrington‘s books. So glad he didn’t do it with this one. Storyline was good I enjoyed the book and it was so refreshing for him just to reference to them going to have sex besides having to go all out details and every time they did it had to be wild monkey sex.

Phenomenal book, glad I can speed up the audio

This book was phenomenal, it was expertly written and keeps you engaged. The narrator speaks so slowly though, I was happy to have the option to speed up the audio to a more comfortable speed for me personally. Otherwise it would have been hard to follow since it would have lulled me to sleep. I think maybe some people like that, but other than that, the narrator was ok

The bust of Palmetto

I certainly enjoyed this story. I couldn’t get enough. I love Stuart Woods books but have it narrated is great.

An engaging suspenseful tale.

I liked the storyline. I also liked how engaged the narrator(s) kept me without creating a fast paced vibe. Allowing the story to unfold smoothly. Job well done.

Sooo breathy, narrator is!

I listened to the book at 1.4X speed, hoping the breathy narration would not be so irritating. But it didn’t help.
I have a hard time understanding why anyone would choose this narrator for a murder mystery.
Her voice type/method does not contribute to the atmosphere of a mystery thriller book.

Never dull.

I had no trouble with this book, grab me right from the start. There was never a dull moment, always something going on. The entire story was believable & bring a Florida native I could really picture the area descriptions.
