Publisher's summary

The Orthodox Christian tradition is filled with wisdom and guidance about the biblical path of salvation. Yet this guidance remains largely inaccessible to parents and often disconnected from the parenting challenges we face in our homes. Parenting Toward the Kingdom will help you make the connections between the spiritual life as we understand it in the Orthodox Church and the ongoing challenges of raising children. It takes the best child development research and connects it with the timeless truths of our Christian faith to offer you real strategies for navigating the challenges of daily life.

A Great Challenge

I appreciate Dr. Mamalakis challenge to refocus our attentions to our greater goal (relationship with Christ) over our immediate wants (a peaceful home). It made me pause a bit more before responding to my child to wonder what my end game was in relation to each behavior & how to best respond to help my child on the path of salvation.

Great ressource for parenting and people ministering to children

Great ressource for parenting and people ministering to children. Thank you for this wonderful new take and methods of parenting and viewpoint on setting limits and consequences for our kids’ actions whilst keeping our long term goals of having children internalize the love and forgiveness of Christ in their hearts and lives.

Very best child-rearing book *ever*.

This was the most helpful and inspiring book. Also a great eye-opener. I intend to listen to it over and over, at intervals, for as long as my children are growing up under my care.

A gem !

This is an excellent book ! My first child was a breeze so when my son started having issues I was at a complete loss :( this book was an essay read with sound advice coming from both a biblical Christian perspective as well as sound psychological science. I highly recommend this book to any parent regardless of faith background. I was able to put things into practice right away and have seen amazing results with my children and an improvement in our relationship :) A truly invaluable work, accessible and a joy to read!

The best parenting book I've read

This is the first parenting book I have read that truly respects who we are as a family growing together in Christ. no systems or gimmicks. Just firm limits, realistic expectations, and calling us to repentance when our kids (as well as ourselves) fall short. I'll give this to all the new parents in my life, and I only wish it had been written when we had our first child!
