About this listen

It's 1942 and talented young artist Emily Torrance is brutally murdered. Seventy-five years later, Jim Mercer, a reporter for the LA Times, covers a J. Paul Getty Museum showing of Emily's work and is smitten by her self-portrait. Eventually becoming obsessed with the slain artist, Mercer investigates her murder and discovers something the cops of 1942 missed: evidence of Emily's killer, but more - proof of time travel. Mercer will leap back through time to 1942 to save Emily Torrance, if she can be saved, because he's found proof his future self has already time-travelled.

I’m always drawn to time travel stories. In order to enjoy them one must suspend all logic. So I suppose that’s why some people wouldn’t like to read/listen to them. But that’s what makes them fun.
I especially liked the setting that the story takes place. Having grown up in Southern California I recognized many references to the area. And envied the main character for experiencing LA as it once was. Before the onslaught of migration from eastern cities.
Suspend logic and enjoy a good story.

Fun and thrilling

generally, I enjoyed the story, but the modern-enghtened man still spoke and acted as though he HAD to be THE ONE. He is the hero of the story, but this character flaw is never really addressed.

A modern man decides he MUST meet a woman in past

Very rewarding story. Desperation and thriller elements good, but love story and overcoming obstacles including some bad guys is the best part.

Stronger on love than Thriller but good

Exciting, fast pase time travel romance. If you like time travel novels, don't miss this one.

Puts "Somewhere in Time" to shame!

Really enjoyed the narration. Good vocal characterization. For me, best enjoyed at +1.25 speed to keep the story moving. The ending was a twist that I did not expect. The confession seemed a little confusing and disjointed in time and description. Enjoyed the detail and research required to accurately describe a story in 1942 form the present day. I also learned what a 'snood' is and the early description of Los Angeles.

Suspend Your Disbelief and Enjoy

I listened for a few hours but the story didn't go anywhere. It certainly didn't involve time travel. Just some guy longing for a woman murdered over 50 years in the past. Reads more like a history lesson on Los Angeles. Kinda boring.

It just never got better.

I couldn't stop listening to this exciting story!!! So many scenarios possible, but I was scared the worst would happen! I wish the story would have continued as a prologue, and Emily's reactions to the present, and their future wouldn't just be left to my imagination.

White knuckle gripping excitement!!!
