Secret agents, forbidden love, danger, and magic!

Supernatural Secret Service agents Owen Sharps and Calvin Springfield meet on the train to their new assignment in St. Louis, and sparks fly between them. But it's 1897, and they need to be very careful—falling in love can be dangerous for men like them.

It's their first case together, investigating mysterious disappearances-including the two agents who preceded them. Grim evidence leads them to look for a darker purpose. Old ghosts haunt the railroad line, zombie rise, signs point to ritual sacrifice, and they suspect someone is trying to open the gates of hell.

Can Calvin and Owen stop the mayhem, thwart the vampires, and find true love, or will everything go up in smoke?

Contains mature themes.

Great time period, love the wait on love

I really loved this time period. I could picture the costumes, scenery. I also enjoyed the home that they lived in and Winston. He’s superb. A fantastic secondary character who adds so much to the story. I also enjoyed how the women were strong and confident in a time when that wasn’t a thing. I very much enjoyed this book. And can’t wait for more of Owen & Calvin’s story.

So Good!

This first in a hopefully long series hits all my steam punk paranormal magic romance buttons. Looking forward to the next book!

Didn't quite meet potential

The story idea was intriguing and the plot was pretty good. The narrator did well with what he had.

My problem with this book is the repetitive "What if he doesn't share my proclivities? " Nearly every chapter was half good plot and half "what if?" To keep the "what if" going, the main characters always managed to jump to the wrong conclusions about each other. After a while I didn't even care if the idiots figured out they had the same "proclivities."
