About this listen

New York Times and Essence best-selling author Omar Tyree is a pioneer in the megapopular urban fiction genre. His stories feature sexy guys and girls navigating life and love in the city. Set in sunny San Diego, Pecking Order follows Ivan David, an accountant slowly growing fed up with his rich, spoiled clientele. He has a plan to promote business networking parties, but when he meets local diva Lucina Gallo, his simple plan becomes more trouble than it's worth.©2008 Omar Tyree (P)2008 Recorded Books, LLC African American City

I live in San Diego, so it was fun to read a book that took place in my area. I liked the story and it was entertaining. Recommend.

The narrator is boring! No excitement in his voice. Can we get better narrators to listen to? He made it hard to listen to this book and I am a fan of omar tyree books. The storyline was great DOES anyone listen before allowing these people to narrate?

struggling to listen!

The reader was great but the actual story has minimal complexity, with low level engagement. I suppose it could be considered inspirational or motivational but a semi elementary read.

mediocre

This book is an interesting book with an interesting storyline about making money, who is in the inner circle as one climbs the latter, and how to do it. I think the author could have done a better job with character development, but in terms of narration, the narrator had a good voice and was an easy flow between characters.

However, as a Black American woman, it was a bit disappointing that the author's focus seemed to be on describing all the (Black) women in the book as having exotic physical characteristics (i.e. green or hazel or rainbow colored eyes, half Black-Asian, biracial, Brazilian, etc.), as if being Black with regular features was not pretty or attractive enough. After a while, hearing that description constantly got old. Anyway, the plot was interesting in terms of ways to make money, and the end was humorous in terms of who to settle down with.

Mr. Tyree is a good writer, but I hope all of his books are not on the theme of describing (Black) women constantly in the way that he described them throughout this book, especially since he is listed under African American writers, and knowing that many of his writers/listeners are Black women. That part was the only turn-off and will make some Black American women not want to recommend it to other Black women listeners. Recommend otherwise for the storyline.

O.T. had been a hit and miss a few books ago. I was a diehard fan beginning with Fly Girl. I read everything he signed his name to during that time frame. Then he got a bit mundane. Pecking Order is classis Tyree with huge growth. I was surprisingly engaged. I would actually read the book. Some books are only good via audio; I think this would be an easy and intriguing read. I would not put this down. GOOD STUFF!! Really Good Stuff!!

Surprisingly Engaging!!!!!
