About this listen

Rare-books expert Brooklyn Wainwright is invited to the 50th birthday party of her neighbor Suzie's aunt Grace. A retired founder of a major video game corporation, Grace is a larger-than-life character who's turned her Lake Tahoe mansion into a fun house. Part of the fun involves a seance, but after the lights flicker, one guest is dead, poisoned by a cocktail intended for Grace. It seems someone is determined to turn Grace's playful palatial estate into a house of horrors. Brooklyn suspects the key to the killer's identity may lie in the roman a clef Grace has written about her life. With Grace in great peril, "must-read" takes on a whole new meaning, as Brooklyn tries to stop a murderer who's through playing around....

I Love This Series

This series is so awesome because we get to go behind the scenes of restoring books. The book is realistic, always a twisty end that I can't guess in the first few chapters. Peril in Paperback takes us on a journey to the world of a rich woman who made her money in computer game programming. Pay careful attention because there are a lot of characters to follow. You might need to make a little list. Not a deterrent, just could help in the course of finding out who done it.

Original plot

I like all of the books in the series but this one went off the beaten path-- literally dunking the characters into trap doors etc. fun read!

The performance was amazing! The story was tons of fun and the denouement was a delight and a surprise lol!

I loved it! And it was like watching a Keystone cops episode, mixed up with “gone with the wind”!

A great series

Finished as whispersync for Voice

The 6. book in the Bibliophilie-Mystery-Series by Kate Carlisle
I love this series so much, I had to buy the audible-edition to the e-book I purchased and read long ago. So it's the second time I've gone through this book.

I can highly recommend it. The narration in the audible-edition is very well done.

Rare books and antiquities expert Brooklyn Wainwright is thrilled to be invited to the fiftieth birthday party of her neighbor Suzie's aunt Grace. A retired founder of a major video game corporation, Grace is a larger-than-life character who's turned her Lake Tahoe mansion into a fun house, full of everything from pinball machines and giant props to secret passageways and trap doors. Brooklyn is most excited to catalog Grace's extensive collection of rare paperback pulp fiction.

Part of the fun involves a s ance, but after the lights flicker, one guest is dead, poisoned by a cocktail intended for Grace. It seems someone is determined to turn Grace's playful palatial estate into a house of horrors. Brooklyn suspects the key to the killer's identity may lie in the roman clef Grace has written about her life. With Grace in great peril, "must-read" takes on a whole new meaning, as Brooklyn tries to stop a murderer who's through playing around...

My favorite of this series

I wish I could tell you why I enjoyed this installment so much, but I can't without giving it all away! Ibreadvthis, read a few more books in thecseries, and ca!me back to listen to it again! The perfect balance of intrigue and clarification, of snark and tears, of beloved characters and unforgettable one-off appearances.

Ever see snow?

I have to say, it was pretty silly to be "snowed in" up to the window sills one minute, then going for a walk the next. The author also seemed to think someone could bury a bird at that time of year in anything but snow. Very silly. Otherwise, a fun story, as usual and got me through the long drive.

Disappointment

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The reader to start with. I do not like her voices at all.

Would you recommend Peril in Paperback to your friends? Why or why not?

I have until now.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Voices were all just too cute.

Was Peril in Paperback worth the listening time?

I am not sure.

Any additional comments?

This is such a come down from 1 through 3 which I thoroughly enjoyed.
