About this listen

From the bestselling author of Just Stay Away comes a haunting thriller about a rising politician whose shadowy past threatens to end his career—and his future shot at the presidency.

What happens at the cabin stays at the cabin. Right?

Andrew Harrison “Harry” Leonard is destined for politics. Getting his start on the Rochester City Council, he quickly rose to become the youngest representative in Congress. Now the up-and-comer from Minnesota is on the brink of something big. If all goes well, he’ll be in perfect position to aim for the presidency.

Then a postcard arrives, blank except for the name on the address: Andy Leonard. Harry hasn’t used that name since high school. Krista Walsh, Harry’s chief of staff, recognizes his old moniker, and when he dodges questions about it, she wonders what he’s trying to hide. She soon discovers the lake pictured on the postcard holds secrets too.

Krista’s investigation into Harry’s past uncovers the truth of what happened one fateful teenage summer. But as disturbing details come to light, how far will Krista go to keep Harry’s career—and her own—headed to the top?

Critic reviews

“The perfect follow-up to Wirt’s thrilling Just Stay Away, Pike Island delivers a breakneck read from the first chapter all the way to Wirt’s delivery of the best twist I’ve read this year. I loved this book!”—Elle Marr, Amazon Charts bestselling author of The Alone Time and Your Dark Secrets

“With shades of House of Cards and I Know What You Did Last Summer, Tony Wirt’s Pike Island elegantly dances between past and present, gradually cracking open to reveal the ‘real’ story behind a picture-perfect politician on a meteoric rise and the boyhood secrets he’s worked hard to bury. Wirt’s immersive writing, clever twists, and layered examinations of loyalty, greed, and ambition’s darkest corners will make you want to read this pulse-pounding, utterly satisfying thriller in one sitting.”—Kathleen Willett, author of Anything for a Friend

Pike Island is everything you want in a thriller. A compelling plot, great characters, and a storyline that sweeps you along. I devoured it in a single sitting. Absolutely loved it.”—Cate Quinn, author of The Clinic

Old friends are the best friends? Maybe not

Some things that happen when you’re in high school and with your buddies can come back to haunt you. That’s what happens to “Harry” or should we call him Andy? And will his secret come out or stay hidden?

Predictable but good

Fairly good story. The narrator made it better. Somewhat predictable. I assumed the ending correctly about 60% of the way in.

Dull and not thrilling

Written by someone who has never been on a lake or driven a boat. This story was dull and flat and it never lead up to any exiting thrills or twists.

Predictable but well written

The story telling was very unique. Although it took out all the suspense as you were reading it, it was still enough to keep my attention till the end.
