About this listen

He was my very survival. Without him, I was nothing.

Pippin (Sampson)

I’m broken, hiding my pain behind fake smiles and pretend joy. Inside, I’m a mental mess between being tossed into conversion therapy and foster care as a kid. I struggle to focus and suffer anxiety, panic attacks, and nightmares. My passions for skateboarding and bartending make me happy enough. But only Nate, my former foster brother and best friend, calms me and keeps me going forward. I’m not sure what I would do without him. Even worse, I secretly love him. Loving him could mean losing him.

Nacho (Nate)

I’d been in and out of foster care for as long as I could remember. My last home was with Sam. We quickly became friends, and I instantly went into protective mode. After Sam got hurt by our foster father, I took Sam out of there and watched over him for two years while living on the streets. When you spend a lifetime not being wanted by anyone, you crave being needed, and Sam needs me. But I secretly love him. I’ve told my friends I don’t want to ruin my friendship with Sam. The truth is if we don’t work out, I won’t be there to take care of him. Sam’s needs are more important than my feelings.

Pippin & Nacho are just goals, ok? They are the epitome of best friends to lovers, they are soulmates who will do anything for each other! Are they codependent? 100%. But to have that type of devotion? Amazing. Reading this story was a wonderful experience, but listening to it? 💋 Chef's kiss! Harley Chase once again absolutely killed the audio on this, he has such expressive and emotive narration! I loved it so much!!

the best audio narrator!

I have loved everything put out by this author, and this book is no exception. Also, Harley Chase has come out of nowhere as one of my go to listen narrators! He is so talented and puts so much emotion into his work.

Sam and Nate have been through extremely difficult times. Once they met each other in foster care, they each found somebody to love and support them unconditionally. They refused to be separated from that point forward, no matter what struggles that might mean for them. This book follows them through hard times and growth, from oblivious best friends to lovers. I especially enjoyed the focus on found family, and how great they all are.

I adored the epilogue, and would love to see a companion book that updates on each couple 10 years later.

I’ve quickly become addicted to the narration of Harley Chase he does these boys all so well! Stix and Stone was so good but Pippin and Nacho had me in tears. I love a good best friends to lovers, but these guys are so much more. They are family,
Each others person, their guiding starts. I was in all my feels for Pippin, besides his neurodivergence he is suffering from horrible trauma. His parents sent him to a conversion camp, he ran away from home, put into the foster system where he meets Nacho. Nacho just wants to help and save pippin from the begining and so their story begins. Between homelessness, trauma, abandonment issues, and more these two make a life together. They fall in love not telling one another, and then one silly sweet night they become more. I seriously LOVED them! Oh and bring the tissues especially for that last 25% of the book😭

I love Harley Chase sweet heartbreaking read!

I love these two so much—from the moment they met and immediately clicked, forming their own little family, to how they had to survive on their own as minors, with nothing but each other's love and support, until they finally found a family with the others in Alpha Rejects. I also love how Pippin had to carry out his tasks as someone on the neurodivergent spectrum and how Nacho supported him through the whole process. And how they both realized their dependence on each other and tried to improve it, growing personally so they could be better support for one another. My kids are the perfect example of soulmates—no matter the difficulties they face or the hard times they go through, they always find a way to keep moving forward while supporting each other.

Oh My Goodness I just wanted to wrap Sam and Nate in a hug. I loved Sam's nickname for Nate.
I was an emotional mess with this one and Harley Chase did a fantastic job at bringing all these emotions to life. I wasn't able to put it down and listened straight through.

If I could give this six stars, I absolutely would! I was able to listen to the audiobook version, and Harley Chase did a phenomenal job narrating Sam (Pippin) and Nate’s (Nacho) story.

Former foster brothers, and best friends, Sam and Nate are so much more. Both have been pining for one another, but fear of losing the other prevents them both from confessing their feelings. Both have endured so much in their short lives, from the foster care system, to homophobia, to homelessness. Having only one another to rely on for much of their lives, they place their friendship above everything else, and are very codependent.

I experienced so many emotions listening to everything both experienced. Sam went through so much, and my heart broke for him. I related to his ADHD and mental health struggles. I also felt for Nate, as his caretaker, as he took on everything by himself.

Overall an amazing story, I cannot wait to read or listen to the next one!

Sam and Nate were so adorable and man, they went through it. I loved how they had each other from being in the foster system. Nate being the caretaker for when Sam needed him. God, I fell in love with these so much and the way they admitted their feelings for one another was so sweet.

I wanted to hug Sam from what he went through, especially dealing with his own shit. Absolutely loved the mental health in this whole series and man, I loved how Sam and Nate needed each other in the best ways.

I love that Nate found the courage to track down his father and that whole scene was so emotional. I also loved that they kept in contact too.

I just loved how in the end, these two got their happily ever after. What I loved was when Sam went to therapy because he wanted to better himself. Harley did an amazing job with the narration in this book. I’m a sucker for how well he voiced bother characters.

I received a copy of this book and this is my honest review.

Nate and Sam are everything!!
