Publisher's summary

A strange virus has resurfaced in the Serengeti, not seen since the Second World War, infecting man and beast alike. Its victims soon become violent, viciously attacking anything that wanders into their path.

Logan Reed, a former Australian Special Forces soldier turned African game warden, is at the front line of this disastrous outbreak. Together with his team, including his sister, a Serengeti Zoologist, Logan searches for clues to the contagion's origin in hopes that knowing where it came from will help them stop it.

And they'd better hurry.

It's spreading....

Points for a interesting take on the undead

Let's start with the good stuff and work our way down.

The narration is excellent. I was a little concerned that the Australian hero's accent would come off too "Crocodile Hunter". That was not the case. The accents are well done and not over the top.

The story is unique and full of action. Poachers uncover a Nazi research facility in Africa and a plague infects them and the local wildlife. I would describe them as a hybrid, zombie/vampire creature. They evolve the longer they are alive and the more they eat. This makes for some creepy adaptations as the wildlife evolve.

Here is where it sort of goes off the rails. The game warden and his band of park rangers are ridiculously outfitted. As the story goes on and the threat increases, the armament needed to combat the plague, just happens to be laying around. I think finding a better way, rather than a bigger gun, would have kept the story a little more grounded in reality. As much as a zombie/vampire animals attack book could be, anyway.

An enjoyable take on "Zombie" genre

An enjoyable take on "Zombie" genre. Good characters. Good story development. Good narration, especially with the accents. Ending left room for a sequel. Which I will be looking for. I am glad I listened to this. Good entertainment. I received this for free for an honest review.

Action Adventure with Zombies and Nazis

This is the usual fast paced retired special forces adventure with the addition of zombies and Nazis. Of course the zombies are both human and animal which adds some twists and lots of flying lead, but nothing really compelling. The plot is so over the top that it hard to take the characters seriously. The crazy Nazi scientists has been done to death and this is not any more believable.
The book was narrated quite well by Maxwell Zener who dealt with the large variety of characters and accents pretty well.

Plague

Not quite sure how I feel about this book. I think this book would have been better shorter. I liked the narrator. I received this audiobook for free through Audiobook Boom for my unbiased review.

A Different War

This is my 1st listen by author and was not bad. It is about an injured soldier, Logan who goes to the Serengeti to become a game warden at the insistence of his sister Cassidy (CJ). It has good character development also enjoyed Fritz. It is full of action, violence; gore as well as mutated animals and humans that are monstrous that spread like a post-apocalyptic story with Nazi involvement. Recommend to anyone who enjoys monster /military thrillers. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. Thank you

Interesting, unique and fast paceed.

An interesting and somewhat unique mix of apocalyptic fare. The local is the African Serengeti, we are presented with a guest appearance by Josef Mengele of Angel of Death infamy, and our leading man Logan Reed is a game warden and former SAS Special Forces operator. Now we roll all this up into an exciting and fresh tale of biological warfare gone bad. The characters are great and although the background is lacking, the story is interesting and the action fast-paced so you don’t notice. There is a follow-up volume Evolve, where Logan heads to the Congo to investigate the origins of the virus. I look forward to this second volume as soon as Audible acquires it. Interesting take on the zombie genre

Not the typical zombie book. The story centers around a virus developed during the Second World War in North Africa. Sort of a doomsday device by those dreaded nazis.

Discovered again the virus is released into the wild.....

The main character is Logan Reed a soldier that's leads group of special forces types that are the ones tasked with containing the plague. The enemy? Zombies and animal zombies as well
A lot of action non stop which made it fun to listen.

The book was enjoyable not one to take too seriously ( I hope ) but to give you a hero and those awful zombies.

Reminded me a bit of the movie ( and book) outbreak as it included animals that go crazy and both had the theme a horrid African virus created by someone.

The narration was good and fit the characters. I had not heard him before and he did a good job.

So who should listen to the book? Do you like action, zombies , creepy stories? Then give it a listen

I was given the book by the author to review and the opinions are mine after a listen and chance to reflect a bit

Game Wardens, Nazi's and Zombies, OH MY

I throughly enjoyed 'Plague' and I very much look forward to book 2! I liked this book right away. The idea of having a former Australian Special Forces soldier turned African game warden is already fascinating to me. Add to that the relationship this former solider has with his sister and fellow animal protectors and you've got yourself a fun and action packed zombie thriller.

Though, there are nazi's in this zombie book. Personally, I think nazi's and zombies as a pair have been over done. I KNOW if we try hard enough, we can come up with some historical bad guys that are something other than nazi's. That said, I could accept it since this book had a campy feel to it already. Maxwell Zener does a great job with the narration, in particular the different accents he had to master. I would recommend this book to anyone who might enjoy a zombie thriller set in Africa (but again, nazi's).

not your typical WSHTF story

this is kind of a zombie, thriller, action book. its not really a zombie book, But it does have cultures in it that have a thirst to kill.
its not what I thought this book would be about,, but it wasn't a bad read.

Maxell did a fantastic job. He was great with voices, and accents.
