About this listen

Audiobook two of the Dark Imperium trilogy.

As the Plague Wars rage on, the Emperor's will manifests in Ultramar through miracles that confound the primarch Roboute Guilliman, even as he must rely on them when he faces his traitorous brother, Mortarion.

Listen to it because

The battle between faith and science lies at the heart of Warhammer 40,000. Guy Haley explores it here as never before, through the eyes of Roboute Guilliman - the ultimate believer in rationality and the Imperial Truth.

The story

In the void and upon the worlds of Greater Ultramar, the battle for the Imperium continues.

Intent on rebuilding his home realm and using it as a base to reconstruct the ravaged stellar empire of mankind, the returned primarch, Roboute Guilliman, proceeds with his war to drive Mortarion and his Death Guard Traitor Legion from the domain of the Ultramarines.

But when Guilliman brings his brother to battle upon the diseased plains of Parmenio, the intervention of a greater power in their fraternal struggle threatens to upend the Imperial Regent’s understanding of the galaxy, and his place within it.

Primarchs and ideologies clash in this thrilling second part of the Dark Imperium trilogy.

Written by Guy Haley. Narrated by John Banks.

The first half was very similar to the last book, in fact so similar I was beginning to think that I would not continue the series, but the last few chapters were so insightful about the heresy and inner workings of Roboute's mind that I will def be continuing to the next one!

really enjoyed it!

Overall the story fits with the tone of 40k. Gives a nice depth to Robute.

Satisfying read

Being able to see into the primarchs war against his brother is very cool, and how the religion of his father plays into everyday life.

Nice story following the plague wars

The performance and the writing were really good. It's not LotR or Game of Thrones. It's a story set in a bloody universe where the lies of a father have allowed humanity to be twisted into a type dysfunctional family affair.
The lore is Awesome!

It was worth listening to at least once

bloody amazing book that I wish had slightly better voice acting. like, the voices didn't fit the characters well and was often kinda... Lacking emotion

Great book. slightly subpar voice acting

The undertone of religious affirmation vs scientific truth prevalent in the series continues in, and is expertly brought to the forefront in this audio book. Guy Haley, for me, is now the definitive voice and soul of Guilliman and John Banks' narration gives the words of the Primarch an unparalleled sense of weight and gravitas. The troop and engine movements of the titan legions, expertly done. The struggles and machinations of the baseline human and the Ecclesiarchy, eye opening and hammers home the depths of their devotion. Guilliman is truly a fish out of water in this time and his struggles with the truth of what the imperium has become is riveting to read.

Highly recommend this audio book. 11/10.

Absolutely outstanding literature and perfomance

Even better the second time around. The re-writes place the story better within the ever expanding lore of the 42st Millennium.

Good Book

Guilliman yelled at a priest and called him an idiot. For that scene alone I rate it 20/10.

Rowboat Gorrila-man yells at priest

Great book. It was a slow burn at first, and the stuff about the nova marines could have been thrown out… but we get to see some of the best moments of Guilliman.

Guy Haley strikes again.
