About this listen

A life-changing guide to freeing ourselves from the utter nonsense of modern life, for fans of Atomic Habits and The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck—the best book to listen to if you’re stressed-out, overloaded, or just plain weirded out by this crazy world we’re all living in.

“Simultaneously hilarious and deadly serious…An extraordinary book.” —Oliver Burkeman, New York Times bestselling author of Four Thousand Weeks • Winner of an Axiom Business Award for Best Business Book on Work-Life Balance • A Must-Read Book for August 2023 by the Next Big Idea Book Club, curated by Malcolm Gladwell, Adam Grant, Susan Cain, and Daniel Pink

For decades, we have been told that being overworked, overcommitted, and overwhelmed is the price to pay for successful lives. That the constant striving, and scrolling, and buying into lifestyles that are marketed to us is a direct path to happiness, when all we seem to get in return is a permanent place on the hamster wheel.

Writer and moviemaker Julio Vincent Gambuto understood this all too well. He was constantly on the go, overloading his calendar and inbox, trying to convince himself that being busy meant being fulfilled. But in the darkest moments of 2020, he was confronted with an uncomfortable truth: life has been on autopilot for a very long time. He was trapped in a never-ending loop, exhausted, lonely, and wildly disconnected from all that truly mattered.

Now, in Please Unsubscribe, Thanks!, Gambuto maps a radical blueprint for “unsubscribing”—a rethinking of our digital habits, the setting of real boundaries, a reevaluation of our social circles, and a reexamination of powerful core ideas that no longer serve us.

Inside, you’ll find:
—100+ practical and tactical strategies for how to be happy in the chaos of our world, and how to unplug and reevaluate life so you can re-design it and live it with more meaning and joy.
—A deep understanding of how modern life got to be so damn relentless thanks to Big Forces like tech, banks, social media, and politics.
—Important opportunities to reflect on where all your time, attention, money and energy really go.
—An eye-opening conversation about work that will change your perspective on work, life, and family.
—and more!

A brilliant, timely, and inspired blend of social science and self-improvement philosophy, Please Unsubscribe, Thanks! will shift your perspective, open your eyes, and help you find the power inside to make real, lasting change.

Julio manages to cleverly, succinctly and entertainingly explain exactly how our modern world is the way it is…and then offers personal, shocking but VERY EFFECTIVE ways for undoing the programming! If you’ve ever wondered why you’re finding less joy in your life these days than you did before smartphones, look no further. Julio, congrats on this amazing work!

Perfectly said, well researched, couldn’t stop listening!

The information provided isn't bad per say, but I believe that it isnt't worth the read. Goes into detail of how to unclutter and "unsubscribe" from things in life. The book felt more like his personal story through the pandemic and how using his ideology freed him. IMO, you have to be in a specific work demographic to really gain from this.

Wasn't impressed.

Both academic and soulful, this book is a great narrative nonfiction approach to cleaning the clutter out of your literal and figurative inbox. And? Love the way it’s read by author.

Yes please!

Finishing this book. It’s compared to “Atomic Habits” and “The Subtle Art Of Not Giving A Fuck”. While I’ve read the later this book is falling pretty flat. He’s trying to discuss getting rid of the bs junk (people, hobbies, emails, and other things) we fill our lives with, but gets lost to much in himself and his beliefs to focus on how you would go about “unsubscribing”. If you haven’t looked over all the junk you have in your life there may be something here. I just think it’s to surface level to be that interesting or engaging

The Idea is There, but He Got Lost Delivering it

Clickbait title. No original content. Extreme politics. Gratuitously vulgar. Narcissistic. Droll. Trite. Whining. And worst of all: boring.

Terrible

While there were a few good tidbits on how to make life more simple, the book was so overshadowed by his liberal political & business rants, sarcasm & comments about his sexuality. I am unsubscribing

Just a rant
