About this listen

The Collapse took my rights away. But it’s my heart that will leave me truly powerless.

Somehow, I’m still alive. So are the gruff, dangerous men I’ve found myself strangely at home with. The Steel Demons escaped execution only to find they’ve been betrayed by one of their own. Once an unbreakable brotherhood, tension and distrust grows between them.

Meanwhile, I’m stuck between a rock and Reaper’s hard place.

I should have known better than to fall for the green-eyed, rough-handed president. I knew a man like him would only hurt me. When he drops hints about sharing me with his two best friends, that says enough about what he thinks I am - an object to be passed around, just like every other woman after the Collapse.

The only question is, can I find the power to walk away?

Powerless is the second book in a motorcycle-themed dystopian reverse-harem series. This series is full of steam and dangerous men who take what they want. Proceed with caution if easily offended.

Solid

This series so solid. I’m completely enthralled. Btw - the narrators are STILL incredible!! Never use any other narrators - they really bring this story to life!

love it

The narrated did an amazing job on telling this story. they brought the characters to life and made made me want to keep listening to it to find out what was to happen next.

Mariposa finds out that she's not quite as powerless as she thought when Reaper had taken her originally. Reaper has taken what he wants, but he has also given Mari something that he had never given before, his heart. Reaper grew up in a life where there was several men to a single female in family groups. For him, to agree to share his woman in a family unit such as this, it was a big deal because it showed a level of commitment for him that he had never done before.

The club is attacked while at the hotel as they tried to find a new place to stay since their last weigh-station was no longer available. Hades saves Reaper from an explosion but at a cost to the pup. Mari finds Reaper and Hades and was able to save Hades by removing a piece of metal from the pup's leg. When Mari saved Hades, this brings her to be closer to being part of the Club. Shadow destroys most of the enemies trying to kill the members of the club and saves Gunner and Jandro as well as the rest of the club. Once everyone is safe, Mari and Reaper soak in the tub and once more things take a turn for the worse. When he tried to explain to Mari about having others in their relationship, she misunderstood and they fought brutally with words. At church after the attack, they now know that there is a traitor in their midst but not who just yet.

Gunner heads to Colorado to call in a favor from his Uncle while the rest of the Club and Mari head back home and the club is attacked almost at the gates of their own home of Shoel. With the help of Mari, Hades, and Horus the MC was able to survive the attack with no deaths on their end but wiping out the Razors who attacked them. In the attack Reaper disappears and sends the club into a spiral, with everyone telling Jandro to pick up the mantel of Prez which he starkly refuses to do. During the trip Jandro and Mari become even closer and when Reaper returns his hope that Mari would be his goes out the window.

Mari spends all night patching up the men who were hurt in the attack prior to Reaper's return, after he returns Jandro has finally gotten Shadow to agree to allow Mari to treat him. But what happens when she finishes, has her shocked and scared that Reaper won't want her anymore. This is when Reaper finally and fully explains the relationship that he is wanting with Mari, with her being the only female for a group that Reaper and Mari both agree on. Reaper goes ballistic when he finds out what happened but not at Mari, and demands that Shadow apologizes, which causes Shadow to speak the most he has throughout both books.

That night, Reaper and Mari ask for Jandro to join their family unit and as they start to "seal the deal" gunshots are heard and stops the three cold. What they did not know was that Gunner was on his way home with news as well, and when he was almost at the gate he caught a traitor speaking with one of the Razers.

Gunner brings in the traitor and Mari shows that she is truly a Steel Demon when she stated she would clean up and heal the traitor just to allow Reaper, Shadow, Jandro, and Gunner to torture additional information out of him.

The book ends with a cliff hanger conversation between Reaper and his sister Noelle, where she tells him that he will lose Mari if he kills one of the men from their "unit" which will be her and four men in total. Noelle also states that they are going to be called upon by the Gods and they must obey the orders.

When you add in that Reaper has a dog named Hades that heals within a matter of hours and he simply "knew" where to find the pup when it was small enough to fit in Reapers hand and what to name him, then the fact that Gunner has the ability to psychically connect with Horus his falcon, and Noelle is speaking and receiving messages from their dead brother in his sleep. The fact that throughout this story Mari is starting to have the ability to know when one of the men in her group is hurt, it goes to show that there is definitely more than meets the eye.

It Keeps Getting Better

I was actually shocked that this book ended so quickly. At least it seemed quick. That is how much I am enjoying this series.

Awesomeness continued!

Crystal Ash does know how to develop a fantastic story and weave characters who are real, raw, loving, and even heartbreaking. I have listened to many reverse harem books. None of them introduced the multiple partners in such an organic way. It was like an extension of these characters and story. It is truly beautiful.
Until now, I refused any MC stories but this one has gripped me and I find myself reacting to the characters, laughing with them, or yelling at them. I think THAT tells me all I need to know about the quality of the book.
I enjoy listening to Keira Stevens and Troy Duran, both. Troy's voice is deep and he does a great job with the guys. His Mari (or any female) narration is not the best.
There are 8 books out in this series with a 9th on the way in June 2021. Only 7 are on Audible.
