Publisher's summary

As a gay person, Joanne dreamed of falling in love and having a child. This seemed impossible - until she swiped right on Lara. From their first date on, Joanne knew Lara was the one - kind, caring, and wanting to have a child together someday.

Two years later, Lara, a transgender woman, told Joanne, a cisgender woman, that if they wanted to try having a biological child, it was now or never. Despite the physical and mental obstacles, the couple embarked on a conception journey that would take their bond to the brink.

Told with humor and heart, Preconceptions is the story of how, against all odds, two people realized their dream of becoming a party of three.

Chef’s Kiss

It’s a love story wrapped in rapturous heartbreak. It’s a hurricane that although not welcomed, solidified a foundation. A castle built brick by brick.

If I could give more than 5 stars I would! Just a beautiful articulation of a life being lived.

A Triumph

Preconceptions by Joanne Spataro tells an intimate, unique love story that defies all expectations of what a love story should be. By detailing her journey down a path of her own trailblazing, the author connects with thoughts and feelings we’ve all had at some point. Self-doubt, self-worth, striving to meet expectations, and realizing the expectations we have of others can be both helpful and hurtful. Above all Preconceptions is about standing fully in who you are, even through the most difficult and magical times.

My heart hurt.

The emotions spilled out were at times heart-breaking.

I loved that I could picture some places as I lived in Charlotte, NC for 17 years, having just moved west.

not exactly sure what to say besides that I really enjoyed listening to your journey. I would love to get in contact to talk someday but would be difficult as I live in denmark. Thank you Lara

Beautiful queer love story

Sweet, emotional and endearing story about the journey of a queer couple to make a baby together. Excellent reading for the LGBTQ community about struggles to make a family.

I had no idea

Preconceptions gave me an insight to a situation I did not realize happened, being a being a white cisgendered woman I had no idea the kind of struggles that Joanne and her partner went through. It opened my eyes and also made me laugh. I also really enjoyed the narration done by the author just a spectacularly funny voice.

I liked the story but it was pretty odd to listen to, the voice acting is alright but hard to get into

Top tier content!

What an incredible story of love and hope even in the darkest of times. This piece gave me all the feels I needed. I listened to this while in my car and it felt like a friend telling me a story as I drove my daily commute. I can't wait for what's next.
