About this listen

What if the perfect life you envy was rotten to the core?

Three brand-new friends. Three very different families. Way too many secrets.

Gisela, Sally and Kate become close when they move into the same new housing estate. But behind their shiny front doors, each has something to hide.

Gisela’s Facebook profile is plastered with photos of her high-achieving son - #soproud; her teenage daughter - #bestfriends; and her gorgeous husband - #lovemyhubs. She’s the envy of everyone she knows, but how long can she keep covering up the truth?

Sally is married to her soul mate - or so the champagne glasses glinting in front of another tropical sunset seem to suggest. But what will it take for her friends to realise the life she claims to adore is breaking her heart?

Kate is a single mum. She uses Facebook to keep an eye on her teenage daughter but claims her own life is too boring to post anything herself. But maybe Kate wants to sit below the radar because she doesn’t want anyone to look too closely and start asking questions about her past....

Three lives collide in this gripping story about friendship, motherhood and marriage and the façade of perfection people present to the world.

Nice story.

The characters are believable and seem to just be letting us peek into their everyday lives. A few parts move a little slow, but in life we don't always get know everything right away either. This book covers a lot of topics and challenges you to think about what you might do in a similar situation. Ending the book is like saying goodbye to friends. Good narrator.

I could listen to this narrator all day

Bookouture is fastly becoming my go to publisher for women’s fiction and thrillers.

And I’ve just discovered a new favorite narrator.

Great story but...

Really wish the narrator would have altered her voice just a tad between characters. I spent 70% of the book trying to figure out who was speaking. I had to keep rewinding it to catch the name. Other than that, very good story

Good Story but Flat performance

I stayed completely confused for the first 10 chapters as to who was talking!! The same voice was used for everyone! At the beginning of each chapter she would announce who she was speaking as but dear lord it was a hot mess. 3 main women characters 3 men plus children and side characters to boot! And everyone was the same identical voice and demeanor…
What a shame because the story was really good, a little predictable but still charming and engaging.

So true!

I’m very glad I chose to listen to this book. The author perfectly captured the phenomenon of our culture these days presenting our best selves on social media even though we all have other painful things in our lives. If we women are lucky we get a group of close friends with whom we can share the bad with the good. Prior to choosing this book I read one bad review complaining about the use of the word hashtag frequently but that’s what made the story so true and amusing to me. How often have I seen my social media friends post a picture with several #soblessed #beautifulday #family. Etc. So I thought the hashtag references were spot on. #getthisbook😊

Oh my heart! SO Good!

Wonderfully Complex characters living The Life, or are they? That is the question answered in this fantastic story of social media overdrive. Loved it!

So identifiable

I absolutely loved this book! Each character was so unique, similar, and different all at the same time. It was representative of the strengths and vulnerability that each one of us has inside of us, and cast light on the complexities of relationships amongst families and friends. This was a great listen!
