About this listen

Austen’s heroine Elizabeth Bennet deals with the issues of manners, upbringing, morality, education, and marriage in the society of the landed gentry of early 19th-century England. Austen at her wittiest.

Really good story. I longed for a new narrator though. The narrator brings so much to the storey.

needs different narrator

I have always loved this book, specially Mr Darcy haha. I really enjoyed the way it was read with the voices matching what I expected of the characters... I only didn't like so much how the male voices were done specially Mr Darcy's, Mr Bingley's and Wickham's. But I know it is difficult for a woman to imitate the voice of a man and viceversa and I didn't disliked the voices so much as to dislike the audiobook. The rest was really well done.

thank you Jane Austen

I have long loved the story, and this narrator does a great job bringing the characters alive. She made Mrs. Bennett especially annoying which delighted me.

Great narration

It was a very long read. But it was well worth the time listening to it. Pride and Prejudice is definitely one of my personal favorite books and this narration was a good representation of that.

Lengthy but Good

Where is my Mr. Darcy? I love these characters as I love my own family. Dreams of my own Mr. Darcy will haunt me for all of my days in the most delicious ways. I will claim this story as my most absolute favorite and it will never get old!

Proud and partial to this book

Would you listen to Pride And Prejudice again? Why?

Yes, I will probably. The reader reads very well and her voice is pleasant to listen to.

Which character – as performed by Emma Messenger – was your favorite?

Mrs. Bennet and Mr. Collins

Highly recommended, a really good book.

I obviously love this story, but I found there were times that the narrator (who is generally good) reads sentences so that it was a little boring -- when the narration wasn't a character speaking, there were times (but certainly not the bulk of the reading) that it sounded rote without much thought or feeling for what was being said. It got a little distracting, but wasn't as critical since I am well acquainted with the story. The variation of character voices is good, but the

The challenge of listening to the audio version is choosing the narrator. The narration by Emma Messenger was very well done, she successfully captured the intonations of each character. And as I continue to mature and evolve, I am able to further reflect on what a radical feminist Jane Austen really was and how some things change while others do not in regards to our roles and goals in life as women.

always a classic

I've read this this book several times and got it to listen to whenever I'm between books since it was cheap. some said the narration was horrible but I don't agree. it may not be award winning but it was fine. I did speed it up as the narration was a bit slow for me. i did not find it difficult to follow but that may be because i am already so familiar with it. I actually listened twice in a row

always a favorite
