About this listen

Even good parents often underestimate the dangers their children face. Research indicates that one in four females and one in six males are sexually abused before age 18. In most cases, the enemy is not a faceless stranger; it's someone you know and trust - a neighbor, a coach, or even a family member.

This book provides practical steps to ensure you're doing all you can to reduce the risks of abuse. But since you cannot be with your children 24/7, it goes beyond what you can do as a parent to teach you how to increase your child's own awareness and strategies in the face of potential dangers - without making them fearful.

Dr. Robinson, whose decades-long practice focuses on abused and endangered children, calls on her own case studies to show age-appropriate conversation starters for parents, teaching them how to ask the right questions and provide the right boundaries.

This book will help you move from fear to confidence on this heavy topic that is just too important to ignore.

This is a must read

While my heart breaks for the children and parents involved in the stories she tells, this book is a great tool. In the age of digital pedophilia it's extremely important that parents know how to protect their children. This book is full of advice, statistics and solutions. Great job, must read.

Good, but with limitations

The author does not address some important topics:

1. How parents can deal with predators who target minors above the age of consent, and how the law shelters them.
2. The legal gagging of Christian counselors are restricted in dealing with the consequences and emotional damage from same se x predators.
3. Focus on convincing youth to be cautious by the detrimental effects of risky behavior without mentioning the Christian moral duty to avoid it.

Otherwise a very good book from a Christian perspective.

Every parent grandparent caregiver NEEDS to READ

Since becoming a mother I have been everything this book recommends. My husband thinks I’m traumatized but coming from a history of sexual abuse in my family I am not naive. It is my reality. My brain is wired differently. This book made me realized I’m not wrong in all the fears I have and things I do to protect my children. This book is my everyday life. Sometimes I cry and I wish it all away, a new mind where I wasn’t so worrisome. I fear greatly for my children but all I can do is educate them to have a Warrior heart. Thank you for reassuring me that I am doing everything right, that I’m not just being paranoid, or thinking the worse because I’m “traumatized”. Every parent grandparent caregiver NEEDS to READ.

what does religion have to do with it?

I read other reviews that said that the author made many religious references, but it was much more than that. I couldn't get past the first section that was supposed to be about prevention in children under five but was actually how to develop your child's relationship with god. What a shame. This book has so much potential as a resource for parents but the religious focus is a distraction.

A surprising amount of biblical reference

A bit to much religious context for me, it gets in the way of actual advice. If you can put up with that, get the book

Very God heavy

Every other sentence is a bible verse. Valuable resource if you can get past the scriptures.
