About this listen

The famous Saddlebred show in Shelbyville, Kentucky, is the perfect opportunity for remarried newlyweds Harry and Fair Haristeen to finally go on their long-delayed (second) honeymoon: a chance to combine business and pleasure, as well as to drop in on some old friends.

Mrs. Murphy (a tabby cat), Tucker (a Corgi), and Pewter (a fat gray kitty), are all along for the trip as well, and when their hosts are robbed the very first day they arrive, Mrs. Murphy pounces right on solving the mystery.

Soon, however, they are all sidetracked by even bigger crimes: a $200,000 mare owned by a young film star is stolen in broad daylight, and worst of all, a groom is found murdered.

Clearly, winning at Shelbyville is secondary; first prize is survival.

So fun

Love the story and as a horse nut from near Shelbyville KY it’s even more fun! The monkey- omgosh too funny. Love the talking animals too. Can’t wait to hear the next book.

Cozy No More

Mrs. Brown's traditional cozy mystery stories took a turn for a rougher element this time. While the story was interesting and enjoyable, I missed the quiet little town with the friendly Post Office. Missing, also, were all the old town inhabitants of the previous books.
I quickly became bored with all the horse show lore and also resented Mrs. Brown taking up my time with a lecture on illegal immigration. Most of all, I was unhappy with the foul language her rough characters spouted in this book. All in all, I would have to say, this latest read did not stand up to her previous books.
