About this listen

He was just a gamer . . . until reality became the ultimate level grind.

Qing Baker thought he had problems. A dead-end job, mounting bills, and a sick younger sister. Then he wakes up in a world where magic is real, monsters are hungry, and the only way home is to level up.

Thrust into Elrydisan, a realm of swords and sorcery, Qing must quickly adapt to his new reality. No tutorials. No respawns. Every fight is a struggle for survival, and death is a one-way ticket to becoming the enemy.

Armed with a rusty axe and a rapidly growing arsenal of magical abilities, Qing faces down hordes of undead, demonic beasts, and treacherous humans. But Qing isn't alone! Joined in his adventures by a grizzled veteran and a fiery young warrior, he forges unlikely alliances, confronts his deepest fears, and discovers a strength he never knew he possessed.

But as the darkness closes in, threatening to consume not only Elrydisan but his own world, Qing must make a choice:
Embrace his destiny as a hero, or watch everything he loves be destroyed.

So this book is definitely not one of your standard progression or litrpg novels, it's a little bit more of a slow burn and the authors newness does show in a few places in the writing. I read the first half of the book and listened to the second half once the audio came out, and the narrator took a little getting used to as well.

everything really picks up around 40% through and I think it's worth it if you stick with it. there's enough there that I want to find out what happens next

requires some patience for a new author/series

Fantastic book that doesn’t get the attention it deserves. Well narrated and a nail-biting storyline. Make this one at the top of your list!

Underrated

This was a great start to a new upcoming series. Cannot wait to for the story and adventure to continue and the world to develop.

Great Start

There are a few holes that I would like filled but definitely a solid start to a series.

Good start

This one was a slog for me, though I finished it. The Mc’s hesitation was a constant source of frustration for me. I’d find my self just yelling for him to stop being a whiney child and fight. Like either he fights and dies or he gets to live of a bit before the zombies take over. It took him way too long to just buckle down and fight.

MC was very whiney

Made it 5 chapters in before the cringe forced me to take a break. maybe I'm just in a bad mood and I'll pick it up later on and it'll be much better. you'll see an update here if I do.

Was so not feeling this

I found the writing to be cringe in alot of places, the premise sounds great but the main character just did not work well for me. it's a pretty generic litrpg that could use some refining.
I honestly hope to see more from the author in the future but at this time he could use some experience in my opinion.
the narrator was great, good voices, set the tone well and made the best of a basic title.

DNF about 5 hours in
