About this listen

Hi, my name's Max and I'm one of the Selected.

What's the first thing that pops into your head when you read those words? A great hero, chosen from among all the billions of people on Earth? A lucky man who has ended up on an unknown world and gained superpowers? An explorer of new worlds who has discovered his destiny?

Well, that's all true, but there is one but . . . Actually, if I'm honest, there are a whole load of buts. And there are rules. And the first rule of the Selected is:

"Try not to die. It is expensive and impractical."

I went into this thinking it would be a good LITRPG. The performance was good I'll get that out of the way. But the story has an odd premise with aliens being involved somehow. The whole reliance on salirium to do anything with magic or skills is kind of stupid to me. And it's very light on the RPG side of things with stats or builds. With the main characters getting underwhelming equipment that constantly breaks. The author makes the biggest strongest guy in the group a weak scout which I guess is a joke that falls flat to me. And Lyria being a stuck up, vapid, snobby model gets old fast with the author just talking about how hot she is. The main character himself doesn't do much in ways of combat for a long time and only uses a boring crossbow. Mainly wanting to be the brains of the party and give out orders. Overall the book just feels very underwhelming and annoying while the story meanders.

Not the best LITRPG
