1720. Escaping the gallows, Anne Bonney, the infamous pirate queen, sets sail in search of a fabulous treasure said to be hiding in a lost city of bones somewhere in the heart of Africa. But what she finds is a destiny she never expected....

1870. Maude Stapleton, late of Golgotha, Nevada, is a respectable widow raising a daughter on her own. Few know that Maude belongs to an ancient order of assassins, the Daughters of Lilith, and is as well the great-great-great-great-granddaughter of Anne Bonney, the legendary female pirate.

Leaving Golgotha in search of her daughter Constance, who has been taken from her, Maude travels to Charleston, South Carolina, only to find herself caught in the middle of a secret war between the Daughters of Lilith and their ancestral enemies, the monstrous Sons of Typhon. To save Constance, whose prophetic gifts are sought by both cults, Maude must follow in the footsteps of Anne Bonney as she embarks on a perilous voyage that will ultimately lead her to a lost city of bones in the heart of Africa — and the Father of All Monsters.

I really enjoyed the first books and greatly anticipated this story. Anne Bonneys story was great and I enjoy the strong female leads , however I was greatly disappointed in the littegation that Maude got mired in. there is a time and a place for history lessons and rubing our collective noses in the sins of our ancestors. the middle of a supernatural adventure is not that place. Do I feel a giant legal battle was necessary for the progress of her story , no. I really feel that that was a form of grand standing that could of been glossed over. I like oranges and mouthwash just not together. I feel for what people suffered through and am horrified that any one would treat another so shamefully. I am seriously scared to purchase the following book in fear of the political views the author will try and force upon us in the storyline. Sad.

The Queen of Swords
(Golgotha #3)
by R.S. Belcher
This is book three in the series and I suggest reading them in order. This book is more about Maude and not about the citizens of Golgotha. Maude goes to Charleston to try and get her daughter back from her father. The Sons, the evil nightmare creatures, and the Daughters, who think they are going to save the world, both want to get Mayer's daughter. It's a wild ride!
Through all of this, the book bounces back and forth between Maude and her great grandmother Anne Bonny who taught her the ways to be a Daughter of Lilith. Sometimes time seems to overlap! Awesome! Great adventure, more adventure than horror this book, lots of action and fantastic fantasy!
As great as it was, I can't wait to get back to the characters in Golgotha!
Terrific narration!

Adventure, some horror, terrific!

lots of fun about multiple generations of super wemon.
the story line about Ann Bonnie kicks ass! I wish the whole book was about that.
the side story about her great granddaughter is so so.

good pirate fun

I started listening to these dramatization versions of the audiobook because the regular audiobook was never made past book 1. Overall, I found it pretty good. There was some parts that seemed a little goofy as far as the acting goes, but totally worth listening to. I just wish they hadn't switched up the narrator from the last book to this book.

Enjoyed it.

not as good as the first two. the audiostyle is well done if you like the audio play thing, but for me is a bit distracting and over the top. the story is a bit slow and not actually in golatha and seems to be written for people who skipped the first two books. there's a lot of exposition for who everyone is over and over again. story was fun a bit of a shallow take on some big issue it was trying to take on, but not bad for a fluffy book. in general a fun popcorn story.

lots of exposition dump.
