Dark and twisty Romantasy at its finest

Why, oh WHY did I sleep on this for so long?? This story was every single thing that I crave in my fantasy books: it was dark, tragic, disturbing, mysterious, humorous, steamy, and spellbinding, all wrapped up in beautiful, elegant prose.
It had elements of Greek mythology, mixed with all matter of magical creatures, and a grim reaper FMC.
Throw in a love triangle, complete with 2 delicious MMCs, and enough twists and turns to keep you guessing till the end, and you have yourself a five star read that will stay with you for the foreseeable future. Can’t imagine I’ll be sleeping much while waiting for the next installment- cuz that ending… Absolutely genius.
The narrator did an EXCELLENT job, and kept me absolutely enthralled from beginning to end. Will definitely be on the lookout for more of her work.

Death blew me out of ashes

This book had so many twist and turns. A love triangle, a terrible mother, zombie horde, fates, etc etc all somehow works together nicely. There’s so much going on that each chapter will keep you on your toes. I’m so excited to listen/read the next book. I can’t believe the ending had such a major cliff hanger too! The narrator gave the book so much life. This was a long audible, but kept me entertained for days.

Dark fantasy I'm all in for

Let’s talk about a dark fantasy that had me hooked from the very first chapter. If you love fate-driven plots, powerful magic, and characters that make you question your own morals—this one’s for you!
Narration? Jessie Elwyn delivers! Her performance is expressive, balanced, and completely immersive. Every character is distinct, every emotion is felt, and the pacing? *Chef’s kiss* You’re in the story, living every moment with them.
The Story? This was my first Rhiannon Hargadon book, but definitely not my last. The moment I finished, I immediately bought book two. It’s that good. Think: a dark, magic-filled world, a morally grey FMC (yes, please), fated lovers (we love a destiny twist), and a villain you love to hate.
Trigger Warnings: This is dark fantasy done right, so expect heavy themes: death, imprisonment, gore, horror, an abusive parent, and even attempted suicide. If those themes don’t bother you, you’re in for an intense, edge-of-your-seat listen.
Production Quality? Flawless. No background noise, no weird clicks or pops. No sound effects—just pure, high-quality narration.
Final Thoughts? Listen or read—either way, just get this book. If you’re a dark fantasy fan, this belongs on your shelf and in your Audible library.
Favorite Line: “I wanted you to be different than who you are, but I should have known I’d be disappointed. They say it’s not the fairytales that lie to us, but the people we love.” Oof. That one hit.

Grim Reaper Folk Tale - Exciting and Captivating

Morena carries the weight of the world on her shoulders as she tries to free her brother and sister from the death grip of their mother, Queen Melinda. To do so, Morena agrees to done the mask of death and perform the actions of the Grim Reaper walking side by side with the flesh-eating zombie cullen at the guidance of Queen Melinda. Morena’s freedom will come at a great cost to all who know her.

The author, Rhiannon Hargadon, creatively crafts a captivating narrative of death through the retelling of the Grim Reaper, seamlessly blending it mythology of gods and the Three Fates. The narrative is deliberately slow in developing the characters and storyline. The unexpected plot twists to keep the listener fully engaged. A masterful melding of mythology with zombies was creative and done seamlessly. The dialogue and emotional connections with the characters were rich and authentic deepening the depth of the narrative. This book does touch on some dark themes that could be triggers for some, but they are handled smoothly and unobtrusively.

The narrator, Jessie Elwyn, delivers a strong performance, giving each character a distinct voice and intonation to enhance the action and narrative. Her delivery was smooth, flawless, and consistent. She brought each character to life with her deliberate and keen talent. This is the time I have heard Jessie Elwyn perform and found her highly talented and captivating.

This is a tantalizing listen that immerses the listener completely. I found the narrative to feel authentic and engaging because of the author's attention to detail and deliberateness.
