About this listen

What do you get if you mix Harry Potter with Fourth Wing, Zodiac Academy, a dash of Arthurian legend, and lots and lots of vampires? Bloodwing Academy.

I didn't sign up for this.

A half-fae in a school of highblood vampires? That's a recipe for torment.

I'm Medra Pendragon—last of the dragon riders, or so they tell me. Funny thing is, there are no dragons left. Not a single one. But somehow, that hasn't stopped the vampires from deciding I'm worth capturing. Now, I'm stuck at Bloodwing Academy, where the highbloods run everything, and blightborn like me? We're just blood in their veins, pawns in their games.

But that's not even the worst part. Enter Blake Drakharrow. Cold, arrogant, and way too gorgeous for his own good. He's been tormenting me since the moment we met, and now, thanks to some ancient ritual, we're betrothed. He acts like he owns me, but I'm not going down without a fight.

Bloodwing isn't just a school—it's a battlefield. Highbloods fight for power, and if you're weak? You're dead.

Between deadly competitions, lies that could get me executed, and a dragon-shaped secret looming over my head, all I have to do is survive. Easy, right? Except I'm starting to think the real danger isn't the academy—it's what I'm becoming in this twisted game of power.

And Blake? He might just be the one who pushes me over the edge.

They think they can control me. They think they can use me.

But they have no idea what they've awakened.

Bestselling epic fantasy author Briar Boleyn returns with a new series perfect for fans of hate-to-love romance, heart-pounding action, and dark magic.

On Wings of Blood is a dark academia fantasy romance featuring a bully villain with Draco Malfoy energy who (eventually) gets the girl, all the tension and banter, and a tantalizingly dangerous blend of court and school intrigue all set in an intricately crafted world with unique vampire and dragon lore. Bloodwing Academy may have crossover characters from the world of Blood of a Fae but can be enjoyed completely independently. If you're a fan of original mythology, unique world-building, and character-driven romantasy series such as Crowns of Nyaxia, Blood and Ash, and A Court of Thorns and Roses, you won't want to miss out on this riveting new saga.

Enjoyed the story, but the male voice was really hard to get behind. Especially since the character is suppose to be a young, strong MC, so the voice really didn’t feel like it matched.

Great story… awful male voice.

I like the story I think it was a good story. Slow burn for sure. But I do agree with everyone else they narrator was horrible. Sounds very child like.

The Fae in a Vampire Realm Story Setting

A magical fantasy set in an academy meant only for the best humans and the royal vampires. A woman from another world finds herself here unexpectedly and is thrown into the royal world when she is forced into a betrothal with a royal vampire prince. They believe her to be of a long lost race of dragon riders and so she is spared however since there are no dragons she is fighting to stay alive in a world of royals that look down on her. This is an enemies to lovers, touch her and you die, mating bond romance.

Medra wakes to find herself a half-fae in a land of vampires. She’s captured and brought before the counsel where the options for her are: offer her to the Gods, destroy her, or mate with her.

They tell her she’s one of the last dragon riders to exist, even though there aren’t any dragons, and in order to protect her they betrothed her to the 2nd most powerful vampire, Blake, who she despises.

Medra is immediately put into Bloodwing academy where she has to fight for her life academically and physically. She’s smart and resourceful, and tough as they come, but unlike others in the academy she has compassion and fights for other people.

Blake is head of the house and quite arrogant, but his soft side starts slipping out when we see the lengths he’ll go to, to protect Medra. There deeper I got into the story, the more I liked him.

There’s the cutest Fluffin named Neville that Blake saves for Medra! Neville brings a softness to the story.

The series has a lot of potential and I’ve heard book 2 is even better so I’m curious to see where the story goes. I enjoyed the dual POV!

Romance Content: 2 Open-door scenes and some language.

A Vampire academy!

I have never really liked vampire books. However, this book is amazing. Easy to follow and easy to understand! Loved the audio however, absolutely hated the males narration. Not a smooth voice. His chapters were very hard to get through.. or I had to use the physical book and read his chapters.. but loved the story! Can’t wait to read the physical book!

Amazing!

Amazingly written book, the slow burn was so slow but worth every minute. Book two on its way and so excited for what’s to come. I can’t wait for book two!

The story itself was a blast! I totally agree with the “Harry Potter meets Fourth Wing” vibe. Unfortunately, the narration really took away from the experience… especially the male narrator. His performance made the character feel over-the-top and cheesy instead of natural and grounded. It pulled me out of the world more than once.

Fun story, but the narration fell flat

i liked it, it needed some editing and i think that the first part was so slow that it was hard to get through, and the chemistry between the leads was also meh. i know there was tension but it wasn’t as well done as i have seen other stories. also the ml is a complete asshole and the fact that he thinks he owns her even at the end just gave me the ick. i will probably still read the next one tho

it was good, not amazing just good

If you enjoy academy-style fantasy set in a high school environment, this one might be right up your alley. The story is rooted in a vampire world, with a light introduction to dragons that hints at more to come in future books. It leans into the “bully-to-lovers” trope, which some readers may enjoy.

The main female character, a royal princess, often felt too passive for someone with her background. She allows others to walk all over her and shows excessive sympathy—even toward those who wish her harm—which can get frustrating. That said, she’s still likable and has potential for growth.

The male lead is complex: while he’s clearly trying to protect her, he’s also guilty of bullying and keeping important secrets. She doesn’t always show appreciation for his help, which creates some tension between them, though it keeps things interesting.

While this book didn’t fully pull me out of my listening slump, it was still an enjoyable experience. The narrators did a fantastic job bringing the characters and story to life, and their performances worked very well together. I’m looking forward to seeing how things unfold in Book 2.

I think we could’ve done without the male narrator here. The story wasn’t fantastic but kept me curious to continue and not finish.

The accents were great
