About this listen

When Lucy Bagshaw's life in Boston falls apart thanks to a scathing editorial written by her famous artist mother, she accepts her half-sister Juliet's invitation to stay with her in Hartley-by-the-Sea, a charming seaside village in Northern England.

Lucy is expecting quaint cottages and cream teas but instead finds that her sister is an aloof host; the weather is wet, windy, and cold; and her new boss, Alex Kincaid, is a disapproving widower who hired her only as a favor to Juliet.

Despite the invitation she offered, Juliet is startled by the way Lucy catapults into her orderly life. As Juliet faces her own struggles with both her distant mother and her desire for a child, her sister's irrepressible optimism begins to take hold. With the help of quirky villagers, these hesitant rainy-day sisters begin to forge a new understanding and find in each other the love of family that makes all the difference.

I really enjoyed this story about two estranged sisters. I love this narrator and once again, she did an excellent job of bringing the characters to life.

I admit I chose this book because it was narrated by Rosalyn Landor. I admire her work so much that I expected she would make good choices in books - and I was right! This was an intriguing novel of 2 estranged sisters and their narcissistic mother, as well as 2 love story plots. The location was a large part of setting the tone of the novel. The author, Kate Hewitt, made me feel like I was there in the cold blistering winds slogging through muddy fields. I was very satisfied with both the story and the narration. Excellent job!

Can’t Go Wrong w/ Rosalyn Landor!

The excellent narration pushed this story of family dysfunction to the next level. I did feel that final confrontation with the awful mother was a bit rushed. Overall, a good story with interesting, sympathetic characters.

Better than expected

I never fully attached to any of the characters. The story line seemed shallow and predictable. All in all, it was a slightly better than mediocre book.

Predictable and sappy

First off, I didn’t love the American accent, but it was tolerable.
Secondly, I got tired of how many times I heard “I’m sorry….” Wow
The story kept my interest and I’m sure the author was tying up loose ends at the end but it left me scratching my head and saying “huh?!”
Not my favorite from this author but I’ll try another one day.

Long book, ending made me question

This is a good, pleasant story that occasionally gets stall in detail. I sometimes despised the central character for her weak decisions, but the other characters were interesting to follow. Great narrator!

Good story m if a little slow
