Help yourself to a generous slice of Victoria sponge, a perfect cup of tea and a big dollop of romance. Welcome to the Little Village Bakery. Perfect for fans of Milly Johnson and Debbie Johnson.
Heartbreak has forced Millie to make a new start, and when she arrives at the old bakery in the village of Honeybourne, her imagination has been captured by the tumbledown bakery. But with no running water and dust everywhere, her cosy dream quickly crumbles. Luckily the locals are a friendly bunch and step in to help. One in particular, Dylan, a laid-back lothario, soon captures her attention. But just as Millie is beginning to settle in, an unexpected visitor from her past suddenly turns up determined to ruin everything for her. It’s time for Millie to face the skeletons in her closet if she’s going to live the dream of running her bakery and romancing with Dylan.

What I call a Tea & Toast Read

It starts off like it might be a super cute, cozy read/listen. I kind of wanted that after listening to the likes of Quicksilver, the Desert Cursed series, and ACOTAR. Sometimes you just want something light-hearted and feel good. This book would amp up to be just that and then take a weird turn. I've got just under 4 hours left but I can tell you now that I won't be finishing this book. NONE of the characters are likeable...they all have a whiny, belligerent side to them. NONE of them respect the word "NO." They are just all very annoying.
I'd like to know what Millie is hiding and I think I just hit the point where I would begin to find out, but the introduction of yet ANOTHER unlikeable character is just too much. I just don't like this book. In reality, its supremely unrealistic. I mean, I know we read with the expectation of suspending logical reality but this book seems to kind of pull from the most random tropes and mash them all together like a sloppy sandwich.
I can respect when a narrator knows their bounds. Not everyone is able to affect a different voice for each character. However, this narrator made it too difficult to determine who was talking. There were many times I was lost because I couldn't figure out who was talking. Its not really her fault...the whole book is just bad to me.
I am sure this is perfect for someone out there but it is definitely not for me. I think my biggest gripe is that the characters are all annoying. Maybe it will do better for someone else...not me.
