About this listen
Performance coach Alan Stein Jr. shares the secret principles used by world-class performers that will help you improve your productivity and achieve higher levels of success.
High achievers are at the top of their game because of the discipline they have during the unseen hours. They have made a commitment to establish, tweak, and repeat positive habits in everything they do. Raise Your Game examines the top leaders in sports and business and proves that success is a result of the little things we do all the time.
The basic principles provided in Raise Your Game are simple, but not easy. We live in an instantly downloadable world that encourages us to skip steps. We are taught to chase what's hot, flashy, and sexy and ignore what's basic. But the basics work. They always have, and they always will.
Raise Your Games will inspire and empower you to commit to the fundamentals, create a winning mindset, and progress into new levels of success.
©2019 Alan Stei and Jon Sternfeld (P)2019 Hachette AudioCritic reviews

People are the problem. They're always the problem. If a business person goes home frustrated, if they talk with their significant other about it, if they lay awake at night stewing about it, inevitably the problem is some person at work - a colleague, subordinate, or boss. Handling people issues is every leader's major headache. It's what takes up the majority of their time and - more important - the bulk of their head space. Every leader can and must develop this most important of all management skills.

We may think we have to keep these realities under wraps and act as if we “have it all together”. But as Mike Robbins explains, we can work better, lead better, and be more engaged and fulfilled if - instead of trying to hide who we are- we show up fully and authentically.

Awesome work Alan.
Just made a 3 hr trip to the NC Coast this weekend and got 6 solid hours in. Loved all the messages shared. Being an athlete, entrepreneur and business leader I could really relate to many of the references and examples used. He also highlighted some other fantastic authors and books I have read which gave me a positive affirmation that I’m consuming the right stuff. I think this would be a phenomenal book for your student athlete who is getting ready to enter the adult world either as a professional athlete but more likely a former athlete who now needs to apply learned habits and gain new ones to serve others. Trying to get someone in their early twenties to read how to win friends and influence people may be a stretch. Reading about Kevin Durant, Kobe, Coach K, Google, Starbucks, Airbnb and more will keep anyone looking to get better and grow engaged. Highly recommend.

Motivation while driving to work.
Maybe it is just me, but I love sports stories of great coaches... I'm not an athlete by any standard, but I do believe that there is much to be learned from people who have been able to encourage others to greatness in athletics. It is those same tactics that translate into business and other situations. Certainly the underlying message here is practice the basics, believe in yourself and be part of the team (whatever team that is). This is an excellent listen for your commute!

Good. Nothing new.
Nothing new but a useful summary/rehash of popular business and sports psychology.
A few contentious statements like 'if you think you're better at what you do than Kevin Durant is at what he does... enough said". Hard to compare the degree of success across different disciplines.
If you apply the ideas and principles Alan describes then you will certainly progress in your chosen field.

This book will Raise Your Game
The authors did a fantastic job of sharing poignant stories and insights that teach principles to improve your life and business. I loved the experiences with basketball and other sports and how they relate to personal and team development.
One of my favorite insights was communicating the importance of every role to people on the team. Even the 10th man, sitting on the bench, needs to know his role, purpose, and value, and how his position contributes to the overall success of the team. When he pushes the starting players in practice, he is helping them become better and elevating the whole team. Love this concept of the importance of communication, and that together we achieve more,
I had dozens of aha moments and fantastic take aways. Great book and narration!
