About this listen

This is a novella of the Stained Series and can be read in any order in the series.

Richard Chylton is a man out of time. Appointed as a keep in the Tower of London during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I, he hates what he sees happening to innocents accused of witchcraft. His mother is a midwife, always vulnerable to accusations, and his best friend as a child could make magick. Thorn loved to play tricks to entertain Richard, unknowing what she was and how dangerous her powers could be. She is a natural witch from a long line of powerful women, spirited away for her own safety, to relatives in Ireland when she was five and Richard was eight. But they had a connection that lasted through the years.

Their dreams of each other were really visions and when Thorn realizes that Richard is in danger she returns to London fully aware of the danger that might await her. What is the cost of true love?

Can it really live forever?

Too darn short!

I read the audio edition and the performance by Valerie Gilbert really added good things to the tale.
The historical tale has some good research into social and religious customs of the day, and terrors of the known and unknown that we are not burdened with today. It is a romance with suspense and the only complaint that I have is that it is too short.

A Great Story!

This is the first novella in the Stained Series. I really enjoyed this story until it got to the end of the story. Author Jessica McBrayer created a unique and an intriguing story although the ending still has me confused to the other two audiobooks in the Stained Series. I'm sorry the review is so short but it's a story you need to read for yourself.

Narrator and an author Valerie Gilbert did a great job with her narration of this story. I myself didn't care for the old fashioned accents but it was meant to have it for this short story. I was extremely happy the other stories weren't so old fashioned and more into a the new age. She still did a wonderful job with her telling of this story. I really enjoyed this story and I look forward to listening to the other two that are available on Audible. Overall, I give it a 4 star rating!

A fabulous addition to the series!

This fabulous little tale is a must-read to learn all about how Thorne's Raven came to be. Highly recommended. I loved the insight, which pushes me on to read the next book in the series. But even on its own, the story of two star-crossed lovers who are beset by the evil times around them is totally engrossing. It isn't necessary to have read the first book in the series, but I do like having it as an anchor. Now on to Book 3!

Wow, This could not have been a fun time at all.

Listened to this on audio and was very pleasantly surprised by how well Valerie Gilbert served as a narrator. The story is fast paced and action packed and since it can be read totally as a stand alone I felt comfortable enough to really get drawn into this world. One thing is sure. I do not wish that jail on anybody. Ever!
