About this listen

A startling, seductive, deliciously dark debut that will shatter your definition of YA fantasy.

Sixteen-year-old Twylla lives in the castle. Although she's engaged to the prince, no one speaks to her. No one even looks at her. Because Twylla isn't a member of the court. She's the executioner.

Goddess-embodied Twylla kills with a single touch. So each week she's taken to the prison and forced to lay her hands on those accused of treason. No one will ever love her. Who could care for a girl with murder in her veins? Even the prince, whose royal blood supposedly makes him immune to her touch, avoids her.

Then a new guard arrives--a boy whose playful smile belies his deadly swordsmanship. And unlike the others, he's able to look past Twylla's executioner robes and see the girl, not the goddess. Yet a treasonous romance is the least of Twylla's problems. The queen has a plan to destroy her enemies--a plan that requires an unthinkable sacrifice. Will Twylla do what it takes to protect her kingdom? Or will she abandon her duty in favor of a doomed love?

loved it

the story was interesting, entertaining & I found myself sitting in my car to keep listening instead of going inside.
The narrator did a great job, and she was perfect choice for this book.

Good book, didn't love the ending but.....

Would you listen to The Sin Eater's Daughter again? Why?

Yes, it was a good book. I enjoyed the characters.

Have you listened to any of Amy Shiels’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

She was great. I wish she would read more books. I could listen to her all day.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I didn't like the end. The uncertainty but with it being a trilogy I hope she brings it all together! Now bring on book 2!

Some interesting concepts but too predictable

Would you try another book from Melinda Salisbury and/or Amy Shiels?

This book would probably appeal to a teenage audience. Some of the ideas (sin eating) and the use of controlled information to manifest power are good but a little flat and somewhat old to an adult. Liked Amy Shields - good modulated narration.

Would you recommend The Sin Eater's Daughter to your friends? Why or why not?

I would recommend it to my friends teenagers.

What does Amy Shiels bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Loved her beautiful accent - it helped to imagine yourself in a different time or world.

Could you see The Sin Eater's Daughter being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Not really - there was nothing overly compelling or novel about it

Absolutely captivating

I did not know what to expect when I started this book but clung to every word. I would grow restless when I had to pause it and irritated if someone tried to interrupt me. The story was like nothing I had ever heard before. It was written so beautifully and the performance of it immersed me into the world. 10/10 would listen again

didn't like the ending

The beginning of the book was boring then it picked up in the middle to the end. However, I felt like there was no true ending to this book. Maybe the sleeping prince or the one after will tie it all together. All I know, is that Twyla doesn't have anyone around her that she can truly trust.

cliffhanger ending

Great narrator. The characters had depth. There were lots of twists and turns. Some things I saw coming but many I did not. I will definitely be looking for the sequel.

Great Story

Great writing, it kept me guessing and I couldn’t put it down. The narration was great to listen to. The character voices were excellent! Can’t wait to listen to book 2.

Ps. I hope an audio of book 3 will be available soon.

leaving you hanging...

Narrator did well the Characters have an accent. The end leaves you hanging. For Melinda's sake there better be a second book either on the way or out already.
