About this listen
Through more than 20 years of recovery from addiction, noted yoga teacher Tommy Rosen learned a lot about what works and what doesn’t work in recovery. From his explorations on the yoga mat and in 12-Step rooms, he found a path to sustainable recovery that includes mind-body practices, a profound look at diet, and a more holistic and inclusive perspective on the 12 Steps. This led him to realize that recovery happens in stages and that by utilizing the best practices of the 12 Steps in combination with yoga and meditation, he could achieve lasting freedom from addiction.
In Recovery 2.0, Tommy shares his own past struggles with addiction and the powerful insights that helped him to identify and break free from the obstacles that stand in the way of recovery. Building off the key tenets of the 12-Step program, he lays out an innovative approach where deeper levels of detoxification and transformation allow you to uproot addiction and thrive.
In these chapters, you’ll find:
- A new way of looking at addiction as a vibratory frequency that has roots in family history and one’s "Addiction Story," which helps to destigmatize addiction and remove associated guilt and shame.
- Fresh perspectives on how to get the most out of the 12-Step teachings and community, while avoiding pitfalls.
- Daily practices in breathing, meditation, and yoga will give you access to the extraordinary power within you.
- A pathway to a newer, healthier relationship with food designed to boost immunity, increase vitality, support recovery, and prevent relapse.
- Inspiration to help you discover your personal mission and be of service to others.
The point is not to survive addiction. The point is to thrive in recovery and live a life second to none.

Story
In Push Off from Here, McKowen delves deeply into each of her nine points: what they mean, how they work, and how every person can live them. She addresses topics such as the correlation between trauma and addiction, the importance of radical honesty, letting go of the illusion of control, the value of community, a reminder that healing is a continual process, and that the process is a gift. Whether you’re just starting out or have been sober for decades, McKowen instructs us to be kind to ourselves: Change is messy and progress is rarely linear, but we can always push off from here.

The audiobook explores Ayurveda's understanding of both the problem of our 'one addiction process' and its solution. It offers holistic techniques that enhance any of the traditional recovery pathways and beyond any of the common diet/exercise dogma from mainstream media. It covers the stress/addictive tendencies of the doshic types, and links this to how stress affects metabolism, the main determinant of health. The programme offered in the audiobook is an integration of the philosophy, psychology and physical practises of Yoga and Ayurveda to help people shift their life trajectory.

In this revolutionary book, renowned physician Gabor Maté eloquently dissects how in Western countries that pride themselves on their healthcare systems, chronic illness and general ill health are on the rise. Nearly 70 percent of Americans are on at least one prescription drug; more than half take two. In Canada, every fifth person has high blood pressure. In Europe, hypertension is diagnosed in more than 30 percent of the population. And everywhere, adolescent mental illness is on the rise. So what is really “normal” when it comes to health?

Story
What could possibly be “lucky” about addiction? Absolutely nothing, thought Laura McKowen when drinking brought her to her knees. As she puts it, she “kicked and screamed . . . wishing for something - anything - else” to be her issue. The people who got to drink normally, she thought, were so damn lucky. But in the midst of early sobriety, when no longer able to anesthetize her pain and anxiety, she realized that she was actually the lucky one. Lucky to feel her feelings, live honestly, really be with her daughter, change her legacy.

The Work is simply four questions that, when applied to a specific problem, enable you to see what is troubling you in an entirely different light. As Katie says, "It's not the problem that causes our suffering; it's our thinking about the problem." Contrary to popular belief, trying to let go of a painful thought never works; instead, once we have done The Work, the thought lets go of us. At that point we can truly love what is, just as it is.

We live in a world obsessed with drinking. We drink at baby showers and work events, brunch and book club, graduations and funerals. Yet no one ever questions alcohol’s ubiquity—in fact, the only thing ever questioned is why someone doesn’t drink. It is a qualifier for belonging and if you don’t imbibe, you are considered an anomaly. As a society, we are obsessed with health and wellness, yet we uphold alcohol as some kind of magic elixir, though it is anything but.

As sober personal development coach Amanda Kuda can attest, you don’t need to have a drinking problem for alcohol to be holding you back. Like a lot of successful young professionals, her life was a carousel of opportunities to drink that ultimately left her feeling unfulfilled in her spirit, relationships, and career. She didn’t hit “rock bottom” or need a recovery program, but she did need a change. It was only when Kuda tried Dry January that she realized sobriety was the linchpin for a better life.

Story
Ever since medical school, Dr. Christiane Northrup has been guided by an essential truth about the way our bodies, minds, and souls are intertwined. It's the same truth Edgar Cayce expressed in this famous formula: The spirit is life. The mind is the builder. The physical is the result. When we don't grasp this - when we view our bodily well-being in isolation - life can devolve into constant worry about our health and constant battling to make our bodies "behave".

As a health coach, Mel believes that our unwanted eating habits could actually be pointing us in the direction of our soul's true calling and that our addictions reveal something much greater than cravings for caramel lattes - they reveal a need for love, connection, intimacy, and the feeling of being truly seen and understood, in spite of all our failures and flaws.

Powerful Testimony and Priceless Insights
Tommy Rosen testimony should encourage anyone who knows someone working through the process of their recovery, or who is working on their own recovery, or who works with people in recovery. Having done all of the above, he speaks with genuine authority.
Thankfully, he does not spend an inordinate amount of time promoting his website or the resources he offers. I got the impression he genuinely cares about not only humanity as a whole, but me, his listener. A true treasure. Thank you, Mr. Rosen. Bless you.

Simply incredible!
I cannot say enough good things about this book. It’s heartfelt, it’s inspiring, it’s practical. It’s honest, it’s kind, it’s courageous. If you’re on the addiction, recovery path, this has so much to offer. I especially appreciate the chapter on the importance of a whole food diet and the important role it plays in addiction recovery regardless of the addiction. There is no doubt that a healthy diet needs to be an embedded aspect of all addiction recovery programs and yet it rarely is. Whole foods help us recover. Sugar, caffeine, and processed foods work against our recovery. This insight alone can be a game-changer. In short, thank you, Tommy, for sharing your raw story and your hard-earned insights with us.
