Publisher's summary

A dark, engrossing, blood-drenched tale of the familiar threats to female power - and one girl’s journey to regain it. Five starred reviews greeted this powerful story from Elana K. Arnold, author of the Printz Honor winner Damsel.

You are alone in the woods, seen only by the unblinking yellow moon. Your hands are empty. You are nearly naked. And the wolf is angry.

Since her grandmother became her caretaker when she was four years old, Bisou Martel has lived a quiet life in a little house in Seattle. She’s kept mostly to herself. She’s been good.

But then comes the night of homecoming, when she finds herself running for her life over roots and between trees, a fury of claws and teeth behind her.

A wolf attacks. Bisou fights back. A new moon rises. And with it, questions.

About the blood in Bisou’s past, and on her hands as she stumbles home.

About broken boys and vicious wolves.

About girls lost in the woods - frightened, but not alone.

Featured Article: The Best Women Narrators to Listen to Right Now

One of the biggest questions listeners have when it comes to approaching a new audiobook is whether or not they'll enjoy the narration style. This is understandable, as audiobooks are at least a few hours long (with many clocking in at 20 hours long—or more!), and sticking with one person's voice for that time period can feel like a big commitment. We rounded up some of the best female narrators with a robust list of audiobooks under their belts.

Girls becoming women and standing up to the wolf in men.

Girls becoming women and standing up to the wolf in men. Speaking out to the double standard of women being harassed and violated by men out of fear of having their reputation distroyed.. and how even in today's world women still fall silent.

The cover

Love how it was like a modern day version of red riding hood but with her as a hunter and made it much better. Love it love it

I want more...

This was just what I needed! This book has really important themes for growing young girls, and it's done in such a creative way. I have always love reading fantasy, but the genre hasn't always created characters, that as a young girl, I could look up to. Representation matters!

Everyone who menstruates needs to read this book.

This coming of age story is empowering and unusual, with its strong female protagonists who do not man-bash. The main character respects her body (what a concept!) and calls out inappropriate masculine behavior in a way I’ve never seen before. Elana K. Arnold is emancipating young people respectfully and honestly.

not for me

I was excited about a werewolf/ hunter book.
There wasn't much action at all. lots of dialog.
The MFC was the hero. but she was not very smart. Constantly coming across as densy.
The author sounds anti-man, anti-masculine about everything.
Because apparently only men turn to wolves because of the internal evil.

Promising idea but falls flat

This book was pretty painful to get trough. First off it's a little weird that you're placed into the main character's shoes & having the narrator read "you" did this or that. Secondly the story is slow even through fight scenes or some major plot's reviled. Thirdly there's so much left unfinished at the end I honestly though the download wasn't working.

I wanted to give this the benefit of the doubt but there were a number of times I nearly gave up. Sadly this wasn't worth the credit I spent on it.

Was Not Prepared

There are many things that I liked and disliked. This book made me very uncomfortable. The sex was explicit and very pornographic for a YA book. Maybe that makes me old fashion but this book crosses the line for me. I enjoyed the story. I felt like the feminist perspective was a little too pushy, yet there were messages I completely agree with. If I had known how explicit it was and the language I would've kindly passed.
