About this listen

A radically new understanding of and practical approach to climate change by noted environmentalist Paul Hawken, creator of the New York Times best seller Drawdown

Regeneration offers a visionary new approach to climate change, one that weaves justice, climate, biodiversity, equity, and human dignity into a seamless tapestry of action, policy, and transformation that can end the climate crisis in one generation. It is the first book to describe and define the burgeoning regeneration movement spreading rapidly throughout the world.

Regeneration describes how an inclusive movement can engage the majority of humanity to save the world from the threat of global warming, with climate solutions that directly serve our children, the poor, and the excluded. This means we must address current human needs, not future existential threats, real as they are, with initiatives that include but go well beyond solar, electric vehicles, and tree planting to include such solutions as the fifteen-minute city, bioregions, azolla fern, food localization, fire ecology, decommodification, forests as farms, and the number one solution for the world: electrifying everything.

Paul Hawken and the nonprofit Regeneration Organization are launching a series of initiatives to accompany the book, including a streaming video series, curriculum, podcasts, teaching videos, and climate action software. Regeneration is the inspiring and necessary guide to inform the rapidly spreading climate movement.

Critic reviews

"Regeneration covers an impressively broad range of topics from food safety to the war industry, electric vehicles to mangroves, which serves to demonstrate how all-encompassing the challenge is… those of us who feel the weight of the crisis will find the book both clarifying and helpful as is his final exhortation: ‘It’s not your job to save the planet.’ Rather, it is all of our jobs."—San Francisco Chronicle

"Regeneration is honest and informative, a rebuttal to doomsayers who believe it is too late."—Jane Goodall

"Regeneration is brilliant! Encouraging, inspiring, with the best science and a big heart. Wow! It is a direct practical path to save and transform the earth that we can actually do!"—Jack Kornfield, PhD, Founder of Spirit Rock Center

Required reading!

They should become either a single textbook set up with discussion points and questions at the end of each chapter or as a series of textbooks perhaps for younger students. It’s important that these many concepts, stories, Scientific Revelations And just basic information about our planet in our culture they put out in front of the public eye for all to take in and consider.

The most important book to read!

Everyone must read this book! At first I had to skip around to chapters that resonate with me because I had a hard time relating to the first few chapters, but now I’m going back and filling in the rest. I find this book to be fascinating, inspiring and motivating. As an Atlanta city dweller I’m especially interested in what Paul revealed about transformations in urban planning, building construction (omg living walls!) clothing industry, healthcare, transportation, plastics industry, food and regenerative agriculture.

The way forward! Amazing

This is a book everyone needs to read. There is so much to learn and so much we can all do to help the planet, but we need to take the first step and educate ourselves. I now feel empowered to do more.

Gigatons of positive steps to save the planet

Its not often that when finishing a book, you immediately take action to change your behavior, but after this one i did.
Firstly the book reveals the.fact that action does not have to be exclusively taken by Governments, actually, they are impotent at this critical stage. No, Action takes place with every one of us, using our behavior, and purchasing decisions to create the changes necessary...Why, because that's what got us where we are today.
The book has so much good data that its like drinking from a fire hose (If we had that much water). I selected a few simple changes to my way of life. After reading of the major damage to our boreal forests, and the destruction of trees, I looked at the Mega bags of monster paper towels that I consume for every wipe, and drying action. From Kitchen towels to tissues, to toilet paper, My goal is to eliminate them . I grew up with cotton hanky's, with dish cloths, dish towels. I just ordered my first batch of handkerchiefs, organic cotton of course, and am tentatively approaching the idea of installing a bidet. Something that appears to scare Americans.. we seem to have an unhealthy fear of our arses., probably need to get over it! But that would close the door on all paper products made from the Arboreal forests.
The other takeaway was leave the land alone. After removing most of the "Untidy" natural growth around my house, and puchasing my favorite ride on mower, I realize what i have done. I must learn to look lovingly on an untidy mess of weeds, cedars, scrubby bushes, realizing they are the habitat of life . So I'm going to let 1/3 of my "lawn" go back to nature. i could go on forever, but listen to the book, go to the website, Take control...Its your earth, You Screwed it up....You can fix it.

More Than A Book About Climate Change

While it started a little slow (partly because I was very familiar with the subject), Paul's book was far more than I would have expected. He is the master of climate books having written the Drawdown books which were the Bible on climate change. In this book he gives a great sense of the world: past, present, and future in a global sense. Very entertaining and informative. He also delved in other societal matters that many are not familiar with but which are critical knowledge for anyone with a moral compass. I can heartily recommend this book because it is so interesting and enlightening.

Better as a Book

This is a wonderful book, that fills me with hope. my only complaint is the primary narrator. For me, the voice seems to just be reading from the script. There isn't any inflection nor enthusiasm to the amazing content inside.

Very enlightening

What an incredibly comprehensive & thorough exploration of this topic. Although it can seem hopeless, it is great that they give us, planet dwellers, some Actionable work to turn the tide.
