About this listen

Abby Kimball has just moved to New England with her boyfriend and is trying to settle in, but the experience is proving to be quite unsettling, to say the least. While on a tour of local historic homes, Abby witnesses a family scene that leaves her gasping for breath - because the family has been dead for nearly a century. Another haunting episode follows, and another, until it seems to Abby that everything she touches is drawing her in, calling to her from the past.

Abby would doubt her sanity if it weren't for Ned Newhall, the kind and knowledgeable guide on that disturbing house tour. Rather than telling her she's hallucinating, Ned takes an interest in Abby's strange encounters and encourages her to figure out what's going on, starting with investigating the story of the family she saw and exploring her own past.

But as Abby begins to piece together a history that's as moving as it is shocking and unravels a long-ago mystery that nearly tore her family apart, she also begins to suspect that Ned's got secrets of his own and that his interest may be driven as much by a taste for romance as by a love for history.

not what I was expecting

ok, so first a disclaimer: I came to this book because of a murder mystery series by this author and I just assumed it was also a murder mystery. So by halfway through I was quite confused because
.... no dead body.
Would I have read it had I had realised it wasn't a murder mystery? probably not. But I like the style of this author and the historical details were interesting, so I was able to finish. (Could've done without the melodramatic 'spiritual' romantic connection between the h and H though 🙄 Author is a lot more pragmatic about romance/sex in other books).

First “seeing dead people”book

Good plot well written. I like the locale, people and general feel of this book. I call it an escape book. All of the historical detail of the Lexington/Concord area is spot on. Sheila Connelly has done it yet again👍

not really a mystery but a fun story anyways.

Abby moves to massesusette in September and discovers she can see ghost, or echos of past event. the question that's is answered by the end of the book is which ghosts she can see and she also discovers some old family secrets. there are no clues and no puzzle solving for the reader but the characters are likeable and it's a fun story for a crisp fall day.

I enjoyed the history aspect of this.

I didn’t care for the male voices. They should use real men for those parts.

So far the best of all of her books

The narrator is very good with all voices and "heroine" is very like able and appropriate. The story is entertaining and believable. I hope the rest of the books in this series are as good!
