About this listen

When dessert chef Casey Feldstein finds out that her late aunt's business, Yarn2Go, has one more yarn retreat scheduled, she decides to go ahead and host the event, despite her complete lack of experience as a knitter. At least the retreat is on the beautiful Monterey Peninsula.

But the idyllic setting is soured when a retreat regular is found murdered in her hotel room. Feeling a sense of responsibility, Casey begins to weave the clues together and detects a pattern which may shed light on her aunt's suspicious death. Despite the danger, the last thing Casey plans to do is retreat. She'll catch this killer...or dye trying.

Fun Knitting Theme Murder Mystery

Cute story. Not terribly cerebral but a fun listen, especially if you're a knitter. The voice actress sounds a little old to be the 35 year old protagonist.

Could have used famous examples

I kept waiting for Rosie Greer to be used as an example of men not ashamed of needle craft!

Fun read

The characters were engaging, and I am looking forward to hear just what happens in the next book. Will she continue baking? Or more importantly, how will she progress with her knitting?

Pleasantly surprised...

I was hesitant to purchase this book/audiobook as I have very little interest in knitting. I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised. Betty Hechtman has crafted well developed characters and the storyline was original. Margaret Strom did a nice job of bringing in all to life. I recommend this to fans of cozy mysteries, whether you do or don’t enjoy knitting.

Hallmark movie mystery

Clean, tight writing with a decent premise, but cookie-cutter characters and dialogue. Not much sensory imagery to pull you in. As a non-knitter I found the knitting part mildly interesting, but knitting enthusiasts would probably be bored.

The reader spoke clearly but very slowly. The dialogue sounded even more stilted than it might have otherwise. But then, she wasn't given a lot to work with.

Most of the female characters are stuck in traditional roles, and more excited about baking the perfect muffin or being an ideal wife, mother, or retreat guest than changing the world. They come across as maddeningly helpless. I really wish the heroine had stood up for herself more. Don't even get me started on her idiotic assumptions about her sexy neighbor.

With all that said, I know older women who would love a simple story with easily relatable characters and a lack of graphic sex or violence, so I'm sure it has an audience.
