About this listen

Rose Mathieson knows the only way is up. It has to be. She's made some mistakes in her life, but almost losing her son is a wake-up call. More than that: it's a call to action. It's time to start again.

The town of Redemption, Connecticut, seems to offer exactly what she craves: a quiet, stable life for her and her six-year-old son, Olly. But Redemption has changed since she last saw it - or perhaps it's just Rose who has changed. Her reputation precedes her now, and not everyone is happy to see her back.

Caden Shoreham is, though. Rose's childhood neighbor, a preacher's son, and now the pillar of the community, he's embarking on an ambitious new path of his own. He had always hoped they might end up more than friends, but Rose Mathieson isn't quite what his parents and friends had in mind for him.

Everyone deserves a chance - but has Rose used all her chances up?

So much oppressive angst!

D N F!! 50% but I really tried.

1.75 Stars for me!

My rating range of this story...
If significant, why? 1 - 3 Stars

Main Character Ratings...
H = 7/10
h = 1/10

Was cheating involved? No
Any major triggers to be aware of? Abusive upbringing of the h.

Scenes with heat... Yes
What point does it start? 40%
How much of the story? Unknown
Anything beyond M/F? No
If yes, explained

Heat Rating... 3/10
Clean or Fade to Black - 1 or 2
Normal to Descriptive 3-5
Detailed Descriptive Sex - 6-7
Um, Wow, Beyond Descriptive Sex - 8 or above

Was there so much sex or unrealistic sex that you rolled your eyes and/or skipped forward? No

The back story... The h moves back home after putting herself in rehab and joins her young son, Aunt, her new Beau, her brother and his new girlfriend. The H is running for mayor and is under is overbearing mother's thumb.

The Romance... The H has always had a soft spot for the h. She is lusting after the new and improved H.

The drama explosion... Didn't get that far but my best guess is that she didn't feel worthy.
Did it feel real or contrived? Unknown
Was it OTT? Unknown
Separation involved? Unknown
Was it resolved properly or rushed? Unknown

Final Notes... The storyline itself is excellent as it deals with real world issues and the overwhelming possibility of redemption. The relationship with her son felt natural and the young son had periodical acting out issues.

What killed the story for me was the overwhelming amount of negativity from the h. Every few minutes, she was assuming the worst only to then find out that she was wrong. I felt like I entered the world of droopy dog.

The writing is excellent and I have read other books by this author that I thoroughly enjoyed. If you love continuous and nearly oppressive angst, you will love this story.
