About this listen

Cape May, New Jersey, is the site of a big culinary competition - and the knives are out....

Poppy McAllister is happy about opening a Jersey Shore B&B - but working in a professional kitchen has always been her real dream. Now it's coming true, at least briefly, as she teams up with her former fiance, Tim - and his condescending partner, Gigi - during the high-profile Restaurant Week challenge. Poppy's specialty is pastries, despite her devotion to a Paleo diet. But if anyone can make glorious gluten-free goodies, it's Poppy.

Things get heated quickly - especially when some ingredients get switched and Tim's accused of sabotage. Relatively harmless pranks soon escalate into real hazards, including an exploding deep fryer. And now one of the judges has died after taking a bite of Poppy's cannoli - making her the chef suspect....

Funny

I enjoy the author’s witty writing style and the reader did an excellent job. Just wish she would have Poppy just pick one or the other men, as it’s not right to keep both men dangling for so long. Makes women seem so ridiculously weak as to not be able to make a decision.

Immature and Improbable

Once again, the plot makes no sense. Poppy supposedly wants to be an innkeeper, after renovating her great Aunt's Victorian home in Cape May NJ. Of course, Poppy had not visited her dear Aunt - the woman who took her in as a small child - since she had graduated high school. Rather than concentrating on learning the hospitality business, Poppy is distracted by baking for a local coffee shop owned by a cute guy and flirting with chef her high school boyfriend. Poppy agrees to help with a cooking contest to help the boyfriend whose restaurant is failing. Poppy has the emotional maturity of a 12-year-old.
