About this listen

Produce enough income to retire and make market volatility your very best friend.

Steve Selengut, a 44-year investment professional, teaches you a simple yet little-known system for investing in the stock market that shouldn't be a secret (but is). It delivers reliable income without selling your hard-earned investments to pay the bills. Better yet, it works whether the stock market is going up or down.

Retirement Money Secrets will give you the tools to:

  • Stop worrying about having enough money to retire
  • Stop agonizing over market volatility
  • Stop obsessively scrolling the news about inflation

Retirement Money Secrets shifts your focus from chasing market value "returns" to creating a growing stream of reliable spending money. At the end of this book you will be able to confidently say:

Neither a market correction nor rising interest rates (not even a pandemic) will have a negative impact on my investment income. In fact, either scenario will help me increase my income growth rate long term.

Steve Selengut created income-independent portfolios for his clients for decades, and this book will walk you through the process he used so you can do that for yourself.

You can do this. Buy Retirement Money Secrets and achieve income independence.

CEFs sound interesting. I’ll be looking into them. It was easy to listening to. Pretty good.

Good listen. I’ll be studying CEFs

I have read dozens of financial and investing books, never heard of Closed End Funds until now. Will look into them deeper (i'm still aways off from retirement.

Interesting perspective

Steve Selengut’s book introduces the retirement focused reader to the world of income investing through the use of closed-end funds (CEFs).Unlike well-worn strategies that involve plunking money into low return bond funds and the slowing drawing them down 4% at a time, closed end funds return spendable cash in monthly distributions that investors can use to fund their lifestyles. CEFs are pass-through trusts and are required to return 95% of profits back to investors. Instead of selling 4% of your portfolio each year, your investment pays monthly cash (distributions) with returns as high as 13% depending on risk tolerance. Risk is managed by broad diversification across a whole host of funds spanning the entire stock, bond and credit markets, domestically and internationally. CEFs, because of their structure are not allowed in certain 401k programs and therefore are unknown to most investors and financial planning professsionals. However, these fund types predate mutual funds and are superior to them for retirees because they are income rather than growth focused.

The strategy employed involves investment over funds in many sectors of the overall financial market and benefits from broad diversification, active management and profit-taking. The book uses a conversational style to explain the investment types and structure of income focused retirement investing and the benefits for those who choose it. For those interested in learning and willing to put in some effort to manage their portfolios, the strategy of very doable for the average person with some knowledge of investing but wanting good diversification, returns and growth of capital in retirement.

This book is worth reading for all retirement focused investors as these funds can work as a whole portfolio or as a part of traditional mutual fund/ETF/bond strategy. There is some active management that is involved so this book and these insights are most amenable to those who are hand-ons vs set-it-and-forget-it investors. Overall, this is a solid investment strategy for the everyday investor and I’m glad I found it. I am using the insights and strategy to prepare for retirement in 7 years with very good initial results. There are online resources that support adopters of his approach and great support available. I recommend this book highly for anyone nearing or in retirement.

I did not realize this book was about Closed End Fund investing. It wasn't listed anywhere in the description and boy am I glad I found it. I have been trying research more on investing using CEFs but there is very little info out there. The story line is a great idea on how he walks a couple through on how to better plan for their retirement and the different investment choices they have. The audible version is very good but there was so much information packed in it that I decided to ALSO purchase the paperback version so I can highlight and mark up the book as needed. I'm sure I will reference this alot as I transfer over my stock portfolio to a more diversified CEF approach. Thanks for the great work on this book!

Learned a lot!

Narrator voice changing for man or woman was irritating. Too complicated a system for the average retired.
