Publisher's summary

Laura Holt goes home to Cactus Creek to care for her ailing father whose health is failing after years of drinking. She’s longed for her desert home for 14 years. To her surprise, her childhood infatuation with Logan King has not faded as much as she thought. But Logan is struggling with problems of his own after losing his first wife in a fire, and her father wants her to marry the saloon owner, although Laura doesn’t. As the situation worsen, Laura finds herself going to her favorite fishing spot by the creek to find peace, but it’s still Logan’s favorite place, too.

Enjoyed this

I have enjoyed this series and seeing the characters develop from book to book. This was a sweet story but also has some suspense to it.

The narrators did a good job, however, I feel like Logan's voice always seemed whiney.

I received a free copy of the audiobook and I am voluntarily leaving this review.

Great Christian love story of going back home

I received this audiobook free for an honest review. I loved this story and the bonus story at the end. I love how the author applies the lessons of the Bible to real life. Although this book takes place in 1858, the lessons can be applied to every day life. The author is very subtle in the application of the Bible to our life and to the romance of the characters. The story of childhood friends growing into adult soul mates is an extremely enjoyable listen. The author makes you feel you are right there in Arizona during the time of Cowboys and Indians. The second story of Alex and Melony is truly a bonus. The duet narrators was a treat. They were great. They brought the characters to life and made the overall story a delight to the listener.

Romance with a touch of mystery

Laura returns to her home town after years away with her mother. She’s no longer the little girl who followed Logan around in hero worship. Logan is discouraged with life. Not only did his parents die in a tragic accident, then his wife’s life came to an end in a house fire. His decision to never marry again falters when he encounters Laura. But he’s not the only one who feels drawn to her. And how does Laura feel about the two men? Especially when her father despises one and pushes her toward the other.

This is a lovely romance with a touch of mystery. There are unexpected twists and turns, which make the book difficult to put down. The characters are well developed and draw you into the story. It’s nice to revisit with characters from previous books in this series.

Nice Mix

This book is a nice mix of romance, adventure, and inspiration. Logan and Laura both have difficulty leaving the past in the past. They can find all sorts of reasons that they do not want to get involved with one another. But God has other plans. An adventure that wasn't planned opens their hearts. In the midst of all of this, there are other relationships and romance stories happening. It's a fun book!

The narration is good and enhances the listening experience.

Logan gets his due!

Logan is now single, his first wife Bernice died in a fire. Despite them not being close, he still missed her and due to all his loss and frustration with his failed first marriage he swears never to love and marry again. Little Laura Holt has come back to cactus Creek to take care of her alcoholic dad and although he stop drinking he is very ill. Laura gets frustrated with him when he refuses to finally tell her why her mom took her to Missouri when she was eight and never came back. She’s also disappointed when he insists she give the saloon owner Mr. McQueen a chance at courting her. The one thing that does make her happy is going back to the creek where she used to fish with Logan and Katie. This is where she is when Logan rides up on his horse asking what is she doing on his property. When he learns that she’s not a stranger and she’s actually little Laura, he is amazed at how she’s grown. He’s even more shocked to learn she still likes fishing and being back in cactus Creek. After all Kayde and Bernice hated it. He really comes to care about Laura but it’s stuck on the promise he made his self not to marry or love again. Can Laura change his mindor Will the secrets her dad is keeping and his hatred for Logan be enoughto keep them apart? This book is so good! I really enjoyed the cactus Creek stories and this is one of my favorites. I love these books and have yet to give any of them less than five stars. I highly recommend it!

There's no place like home

I enjoy listening to this narrator. Laura hasn't been home to Cactus Creek in a long time, but her Father isn't well. She knows it is from the years of too much alcohol. She longs to be back at the desert and looks forward to seeing her childhood love, Logan. Logan is having a tough time. He lost his first wife and can't fall in love again, but when he sees Laura, his spirits are lifted. Can he possibly try again.
