Publisher's summary

The Blythe children are almost grown up, except for pretty, high-spirited Rilla, who is almost 15. She can't think any further ahead than going to her very first dance at the Four Winds lighthouse and getting her first kiss from handsome Kenneth Ford. No one can resist her bright hazel eyes and dazzling smile.

But undreamed-of challenges await the irrepressible Rilla when the world of Ingleside becomes endangered by a far-off war. Her brothers go off to fight, and Rilla brings home an orphaned newborn in a soup tureen. She is swept into a drama that tests her courage and leaves her changed forever.

Rilla of Ingleside

One of my favourites of the Anne series! Set in WWI in P.E.I. A great reader!

Just like I remember

I read this book years ago. But listening to it is even better. Love it

Good book, but glad I stuck with the movies as a child

This was a good story. Obviously, there’s sexist stuff in it, because that was the reality of the times. It always will disappoint me though that the author never really followed the life of Anne once she grew up and she’s barely mentioned in any of the stories and seems to have lost all sense of her personality that we loved so dearly! Gilbert has no real personality or anything remarkable about himself either. It seems as if once people have children, they no longer are individuals and become just like everyone else. So I have found that to be rather depressing, and I’m glad that the Megan Follows movies did not follow the lead of the books. This one is better than some of the other later books in the series, although it is definitely a sad one due to it circling around the war with Germany.

So Srirring!

I cried and laughed! The narrator is wonderful. She made Rilla and, especially Susan, come alive as none of the others have. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment.

The most beautiful and realistic picture of how loss accommodates happiness

This book is a great way to realize this was a real event with real heart ache, without being completely depressed by the horror stories over and over again. It gives you hope while acknowledging the immense price they paid. My overall favorite part in this book is walters last letter to Rilla during the war. I highly recommend reading this book!

Just loved the story of the Ingleside Children becoming Adults and the setting of WW-1

If you like the other Anne of Green Gables books, you will thoroughly enjoy this last one. I was used to the narrators of the other books, and it really took me a while to get used to this narrators performance, because, well, it’s different. But really, I love the book.

Loved it!

Excellent book! Grab a tissue or 10! Lots of WWI history, too. I’m sad that this is the last in the series.
